Roundup: Big Blue volleyball goes distance, gets win

The Swampscott volleyball team went five sets against Salem Tuesday before pulling out a 3-2 victory.Swampscott won sets 1 (25-22) and 3 (26-24) while the Witches took the second (25-19) and staved off defeat for the moment by winning the fourth set, 25-19. The Big Blue (2-6) won the deciding game, 15-7.?The whole team did a fantastic job of hanging in and playing tough to get our second win of the season,” said Swampscott coach Chip Emery.Captain and outside hitter Gina Asipenko had seven aces and 10 kills; setter Leanne Nisbet had 18 assists, two kills and two aces; middle blocker Maria Travascio had five aces and three kills; and middle blocker Maddie Robin Lentz had four kills and two blocks.Swampscott will try to extend its winning streak to three at Revere today.Classical 3, Saugus 0At Classical, scores of the sets were 25-9, 25-6,and 25-16 as the Rams improved to 6-2.Ivy Martin led Classical with six service points in the first set, while Meredith MacDonald had four and Soneta Srey added three.Srey powered the Rams in the second set with eight consecutive service points while Lindsey Tobin had four and Cassie D?Agostino added three. Martin got on a roll in the third set with seven consecutive service points, while Cassidy McGann had five and Srey and D?Agostino had three each.Kayla Arsenault led the Rams with three blocks and three kills, while Soraya Auguste added two kills. Christine Alcalde and Christina Behen did a good job of digging for the Rams.Classical travels to Tech on Thursday.Danvers 3, Revere 0At Revere, the Falcons raised their record to 6-3 overall and 6-1 in the Northeastern Conference. Kara Connors had five kills, Meagan Llewellyn six digs and Julia McNulty three aces and three digs.Marblehead 3, English 0At Marblehead, the Magicians raised their record to 6-2, winning in straight sets, 25-11, 25-8, 25-21.Isa VanWittenberghe had nine aces, Emily Promise had six aces and nine assists, and Maeve Daley had six kills.Jazmin Chhim served well for English, with three aces.Lynnfield 3, Hamilton-Wenham 0At Hamilton-Wenham, the Pioneers (4-1) won 25-16, 25-12, 25-16.Junior middle hitter Marykate Deighan had seven kills, three aces, four digs; senior outside hitter Emma Mancini had 15 kills; and sophomore setter Sarah Mezini had 14 assists.Foxborough Reg. 3, KIPP 0At KIPP, the Panthers lost their first match of the season, 25-15, 25-11, 25-10 to drop to 3-1.Senior P.K. Gaye had a strong match serving, as did Tarra Brice.
