Volleyball: Fenwick comes up with heart-stopping win

The Bishop Fenwick volleyball team pulled out a heart-stopper Wednesday with a 3-2 win over Archbishop Williams at Braintree.This one went the distance, with Fenwick winning the first two sets, 25-18, 25-18 and the Bishops the next two, 25-20, 26-24. The Crusaders took the rubber match 15-11 with Melissa MacKenzie supplying the heroics with two huge kills at the end. She finished with 13 kills, nine digs and two blocks.Madison Camelo (11 kills, 7 blocks); Molly Camelo (8 kills, 3 blocks) and Olivia Petras (16 digs) were also key in the win.”They (the Bishops) played very good defense,” Fenwick coach Adam DeBaggis said. “Our inexperience showed. We had a lot of ups and downs. We’ve been very inconsistent even though we’re 7-1.”Fenwick plays Lynnfield Friday.Peabody 3, North Reading 1At North Reading, the Tanners (8-0) lost the first set, 17-25, but took the next three, 25-21, 26-24, 25-21. Marina DeMild (5 kills, 6 blocks); Julia Brown (6 kills, 2 aces) and Emily Diezemann (8 kills, 5 blocks) were tough on offense. Maddie Mahoney and Danielle Sullivan played well on defense.Northeast 3, Tech 0At Tech, the Tigers (0-4, 0-3 Commonwealth Conference) lost 18-25, 19-25, 14-25 despite solid play by captain Pamela Tavarez up front.Swampscott 3, Revere 0At Revere, the Big Blue won 25-20, 26-24, 25-11. Swampscott trailed 10-1 in the second set, but rallied to get the win and the momentum swing.Outside hitter Gina Asipenko (14 aces, 9 kills); outside hitter Antonia Tucker (4 aces) and middle blocker Taylor McBurney (ace, 2 kills, 2 blocks) got the job done for the Big Blue, who improved to 3-6. Swampscott has now won its last three matches.
