WINTHROP – Winthrop set a physical tone on its initial possession and shut down Revere from there to win, 21-0, at at Miller Field Friday night.”This was a tough game for us,” said Revere head coach Lou Cicatelli. “They beat us in every facet of the game.”Quarterback Dylan Driscoll threw for 122 yards and had a rushing touchdown. Four plays later, Driscoll put the Vikings on the scoreboard with a 5-yard keeper up the middle.”I told my guys the biggest drive of the game was that first drive,” said Coach Driscoll.Revere was able to move the ball down the field. Running back James Furlong ran for 29 yards to the Winthrop 43. After the play, Winthrop was flagged for a 15-yard penalty with a late hit out of bounds. The Patriots (1-2, 0-1 NEC/Small) turned the ball over on downs when they came up just short of the first down marker on a pass from Dan Murphy to Kaleb Silva.On Winthrop’s next drive, Driscoll completed a couple of passes on rollouts to the right to Zach Deeb and Jordan Atkins. Then Chiudina capped the 80-yard drive with a 4-yard jaunt to the left side. The Vikings held a 14-0 lead with just under two and a half minutes remaining in the first quarter.Revere took the ball inside the Vikings10-yard line on their next possession. The drive stalled when Revere was called for a 15-yard chop block penalty. Winthrop’s Sean Gillis recovered a fumble.”We drove the ball in the first half,” said Cicatelli. “We were in the red zone twice only to cough it up and we worked on that all week.”Silva missed the second half with a hip pointer.”He’s a little beat up,” said Cicatelli. “I think he’s going to be fine, but we didn’t want to take any chances.”After Revere was forced to punt to start the second half, Winthrop finished the scoring on the ensuing possession. The Vikings converted a fourth-and-5 from their own 41on a Driscoll run up the middle. Driscoll appeared to be stopped short at first, but he kept pushing the pile. Then Reise Turransky (112 yards from scrimmage) took a handoff at midfield and ran along the right sideline untouched for a 50-yard touchdown.Revere now faces a short week of preparation as they take on Danvers Thursday night.
