Saugus teen turns self in

SAUGUS ? A Saugus man was to appear in Lynn District Court today after he surrendered to police over the weekend in connection with a violent sexual assault.Police Chief Domenic J. DiMella announced that Rashad Deihim, 19, turned himself in to Newburyport Police on Saturday.Deihim was the subject of a manhunt and was wanted in connection with the incident that took place in Saugus earlier this month.He has been charged with assault with intent to rape, kidnapping, indecent assault and battery on a person age 14 or older and posing or exhibiting a child in a sexual act.He was being held without bail pending his arraignment today in Lynn District Court.Deihim was wanted in connection with a Sept. 3 incident in which he and two co-defendants allegedly recorded the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl. The video was then distributed via the mobile phone application Snapchat, police said. Police reported finding the alleged victim half-naked, under the influence and alone in the woods. She was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed a sexual assault had occurred, according to court documents.Kailyn Bonia, 18, of 7 Woodbury Ave., Saugus, pleaded not guilty to assault to rape; indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over; posing or exhibiting a child in a sexual act; and kidnapping; at her Sept. 12 arraignment in Lynn District Court. She remains held without bail pending trial.The third co-defendant, a 17-year-old male juvenile, was arraigned in Lynn Juvenile Court last week on charges of assault to rape, joint venture; indecent assault and battery on a person over 14, joint venture; posing a child for sexual photographs; dissemination of child pornography; and kidnapping, according to a representative from Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett’s office.DiMella thanked the Newburyport Police for taking the suspect into custody.
