LYNN ? Police say a 19-year-old man walked into New England Bridge Products Inc. at 93 Brookline St. shortly before 1 p.m. Monday and told those inside that he had been shot.Lynn Police Lt. Richard Donnelly said the victim had a small-caliber gunshot wound in the upper right chest, and he was walking and talking when police arrived on scene.The victim was taken by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital.New England Bridge is located across from the new Marshall Middle School construction site, and neighborhood residents Willy Ramos and Ivette DeJesus said a construction worker told them a coworker heard “two to four shots” shortly after 1 p.m. Monday followed by the sound of a car driving off at high speed.Ramos, DeJesus and other residents living on Brookline Street and side streets said the relatively quiet neighborhood has seen a recent increase in crime. Ramos ? DeJesus’ son ? said one of his Carlton Terrace neighbors repelled an attempted robbery only days ago and City Councilor at large Buzzy Barton said shots were fired near Brookline Street last Friday night.?It’s terrible,” Barton said.Like Barton, Ramos and DeJesus have lived in the neighborhood bound by Chatham and Empire streets, Essex Street and the commuter rail tracks for more than 30 years. They described the area as a mix of longtime residents and recent arrivals.?I’ve never heard of this kind of thing before ? this is a quiet place,” DeJesus said.Police said Monday afternoon that they are still investigating precisely when and where the shooting occurred and reported Monday evening that they had not made any arrests connected with the alleged incident.
