Volleyball: Experienced Classical blanks Everett

The Classical High volleyball team continues to get the job done, defeating Everett, 3-0, Monday at Everett to improve to 8-2.Lindsay Tobin and Cassie D?Agostino fired the Rams up in the first set with five and seven consecutive service points, respectively. Classical won 25-11 and took the next two sets, 25-7, 25-14.Ivy Martin and Cassidy McGann combined for 13 service points in the second set and D?Agostino and McGann, 11, in the third set. Soneta Srey had five kills and, along with Meredith MacDonald, played very well in the backcourt.The Rams need two more wins to qualify for the state tournament. Coach Frank DeLuca attributes the strong start in large part to the play of co-captains D?Agostino and Martin, who are four-year varsity players.?They?ve kind of grown up with the program,” DeLuca said, adding that Srey, MacDonald, Tobin and McGann have also come up big.St. Mary?s 3, Cathedral 0At Cathedral, the Spartans (5-4) won 25-18, 25-8 and 25-10 on strong play by Jess Martiniello (18 service points, 8 aces) and Amanda Idusuyi (6 kills, 3 blocks).Mystic Valley 3, Bishop Fenwick 1At Mystic Valley, the Crusaders (7-3) won the first set, 25-12, but lost the next three, 14-25, 20-25, 23-25. Fenwick actually led, 21-8, in the fourth set, but a Mystic Valley player served her team all the way back to 21-21. Her teammates took it the rest of the way for the win.Bishop Fenwick coach Adam DeBaggis said his team made a lot of mental mistakes, but there were some solid performances. Madison Camelo had six kills and six blocks and Sam Mancinelli, 18 assists and three aces.Lynnfield 3, Pope John 0At Everett, the Pioneers (6-1) had this one all the way, winning 25-8, 25-7, 25-6. Emma Mancini had 14 kills and setter Shannon Ryan, 10 assists.
