Girls Soccer: KIPP Academy ties South Shore Charter School

The KIPP Academy girls soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie against South Shore Charter School Tuesday at South Shore.The Panthers had a rough first half, according to coach Leanne Derosa, but they came through in the second half. The first goal came on a penalty kick by sophomore Angela Unubun and the second goal on a beautiful lob in from right outside the box by senior Alex Huffman.The Panthers also had strong play from McKayla Berry, Ann Pyram, Mariangeliz Calderon, Dulce Gonzalez and Kim Lopez.Masco 2, Lynnfield 0At Lynnfield High, the Pioneers (5-1-2) played their first game on the new turf at the high school. Masco took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute of the first half and scored again early in the second half to nail down the win.Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont said his team didn?t have much control in the first half, but the Pioneers made a few adjustments and it was a much better second half. Senior captain and midfielder Paige MacEachern had a strong game as did midfielder Hayley Mineo.Marblehead 8, Revere 0At Marblehead, the Magicians (6-1-2) had multiple-goal games from Gabriella Marks and Olivia Eddy, who each had two. Mia Bongiorno, Lexi Bostley, Faith Ferucci and Kelly Mealey contributed one apiece and Lauren Unterborn posted her fourth shutout. The Magicians led 5-0 at the half. Also playing well was Meghan Hanratty, who had three assists.Salem 2, Winthrop 1At Winthrop, the Witches (6-3-0, 5-3-0 Northeastern Conference) pulled this one out of the fire when, with the game tied 1-1 and 30 seconds left on the clock, Tayla O?Leary broke down the left wing to the goal line, turned the corner and sent a gem of a pass to captain Sydney Hanford, who went far post with the game-winner.The Vikings had taken a 1-0 lead into halftime on a goal by Sarah Kfoury, who redirected a ball from a free kick by Nikki Tsiotos at the 31-minute mark. Salem captain Deema Hijleh tied the game off a cross from junior Nicole Sadoway. This was the second game in a row that the Witches would score the game-winner in the final minute.Peabody 5, Danvers 2At Danvers, freshman Emily Nelson went on a tear for the Tanners, scoring three goals. Another freshman, Jillian Arigo, had a goal as did Alyssa Shashaty. Macayla Lachance (2 assists) and Caroline Colbert (assist) also helped the cause. Sophomore Rebecca Sabino had eight saves in her first varsity start.Beverly 1, Gloucester 0At Gloucester, Maddie Curran scored the game-winner with about 10 minutes left in the first half. Kyra Wolonsavich (2 saves) collected the shutout for the Panthers (6-3-1).
