Roundup: Peabody volleyball tops Danvers, stays perfect

The Peabody High volleyball team just keeps on rolling.The Tanners improved to 9-0 and need one more win to qualify for the state tournament following a 3-1 victory over Danvers at St. John?s Prep.Peabody won the first set, 25-19, lost the next one, 16-25, and won the next two, 25-17, 25-18. Courtney Bua (9 kills); Emily Diezemann (7 kills, 2 blocks); Julia Brown (4 kills); Danielle Sullivan (2 kills, 2 aces, 10 service points) and Madison Mahoney (10 digs, 13 service points) all contributed to the win.Saugus 3, English 0At Saugus, the Sachems won 25-19, 25-11, 25-18. English played well in the first and third sets led by outside hitter Sophie Aguirre and Jennifer Benavides, who did a nice job serving.?We actually played a pretty good match, but we can?t string together enough points to close the deal,” English coach Laurie Wentzell said.Pioneer 3, KIPP 1At Pioneer Academy, the Panthers won the first set, 25-17, but Pioneer took the next three, 25-16, 25-12, 25-10. Pleilerkay Gaye and Jilliana Rodriguez served well in the first game and seniors Jalyssa Pena and Marie Kamba did a good job setting. KIPP is 3-2.Classical 3, Swampscott 0At Classical, the Rams won 25-13, 25-21, 25-7 to improve to 9-2. Ivy Martin (5 kills, 3 blocks) got things going in the first set with seven service points and in the second set, the Rams had to battle back from an 18-7 deficit to win. Cassidy McGann had six service points and Stephanie Bryson, four in the comeback. Cassie D?Agostino served seven consecutive points in the third set to pave the way to a win.Marblehead 3, Revere 0At Marblehead, the Magicians improved to 8-2 after sweeping Revere, 25-18, 25-11, 25-17. Setter Emily Promise had 9 aces and 15 assists and Maeve Daley had 6 kills and 2 aces.FIELD HOCKEYPeabody 5, Revere 0At Revere, the Tanners (3-3-3) got a pair of goals from Cayli Armstrong to get back to .500 for the season. Also scoring goals for Peabody were Hayley McCarron, Catarina Bettencourt and Sammie Cummings. Allison Daly and Catherine McGrath split the shutout in goal.Danvers 3, Gloucester 1At Danvers, the Falcons received goals from Caitlin McBride, Annie Tarricone and Kristen McCarthy to dispatch the Fishermen.Marblehead 2, S?scott 0At Marblehead, Annika Krug took care of all the scoring in the first half as the Magicians (7-1-2) got the shutout from Cassidy Alla in net.
