Two local athletes contributed to the Middlebury College football team?s 27-7 win over Colby College recently.Drew Jacobs of Marblehead, a rookie running back, scored from the 1-yard line. Jacobs capped a 91-yard drive that went 13 plays. The other contribution came from Trevor Wheeler, who played at Swampscott High. Wheeler, a senior wideout from Nahant, caught a 69-yard pass from quarterback Matt Milano to put Middlebury on the 7-yard line. The Panthers ended up scoring from the five.Michaela St. Cyr of Saugus/St. Mary?s, a freshman on the Westfield State University women?s soccer team, was named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletics Conference (MASCAC) Honor Roll last week. St. Cyr, who was a captain for the Spartans last season, scored her first collegiate goal to help her team to a win over Fitchburg State University.St. Cyr isn?t the only former St. Mary?s girls soccer player competing at the college level this fall. Sisters Molly and Maggie Carey of Swampscott are on the Emmanuel College team. Molly, a freshman, had a goal and three assists for five points and Maggie, a sophomore, has a goal and an assist for three points.CeCelia Cresta-Devine of Saugus/Saugus High leads the Salem State University women?s soccer team in scoring with four goals. She scored the lone Viking goal in a 1-1 tie in double overtime Wednesday against the University of Massachusetts Boston. Kelly Birchmore of Swampscott had the only shot on net during the double overtime, but earlier in the game, Peabody?s Kara Digiacomo had a nice bid, but hit the crossbar.Worcester State University senior Kaleigh Evans of Saugus had a goal and an assist last weekend in a 5-0 win over Framingham State University last Saturday. She also had a goal in a 2-1 win over Plymouth State. Evans, who was named to the MASCAC Honor Roll this week, has three goals and two assists this season. The Lancers are 7-1 overall. Teammate Briana Moreno of Lynn/Lynn English has one goal to date.Josh Cheever of Lynn/Lynn Classical is a senior defensive lineman on the St. Anselm College football team. Cheever has six tackles and nine assists in the first four games. He also has one breakup and 2.5 sacks.
