Cross Country: Swampscott girls win to stay undefeated

The Swampscott High girls cross country team kept its record unblemished Wednesday with a 27-30 win over Gloucester at Swampscott.The Big Blue (6-0, 3-0 Northeastern Conference Small with a Saugus forfeit) and Marblehead are still battling for the top spot. The two teams meet next week.Isabella Kornitsky took third overall (19:08) on the 2.65-mile course. Miranda Nocera was fourth (19:21); Veronica Rizzo, fifth (19:24); Vivien Gere, seventh (19:49); Alyssa Mauriello, eighth (20:06) and Charlotte Westhoven, ninth (20:22).?We knew we had to have a tight pack to make up for Gloucester?s strong one-two and the girls came through,” Swampscott coach Jeffrey Bartlett.Revere 26, Salem 30At Salem, the Patriots took three of the five top spots in this 3-mile race. Leading the way for Revere was Vanessa Puopolo (second, 23:57), Suellen Guerreiro (fourth, 24:56) and Jaclynne Dion (fifth, 25:06). Revere improved to 6-1.Salem had the top finisher in sophomore Laura Barnes, who ran a 21:52. Kathy Le, a senior captain, took second and Virginia Martinez, seventh.M?head 15, Winthrop 50At Winthrop, the Magicians (4-1) took the top five spots over this 2.7-mile course. Freshman Grace McGuire led the pack for Marblehead (17:09). The rest of the Magician finishers were: Jillian King (second, 17:20); Anna Barrell (third, 17:22); Maura Honan (fourth, 17:43) and Lily Gillis (fifth, 18:19).Lynnfield 25, Amesbury 30At Lynnfield, senior captain Tia Patterson (first, 18:24) set the tone for the Pioneers over this 2.95-mile course. The rest of the Lynnfield finishers were: Marie Norwood (third, 19:54); Christina Irrera (fifth, 21:05) and Ellen Welter (seventh, 21:26). Lynnfield is 3-5.Beverly 16, Peabody 48At Peabody, the Tanners were led by the duo of Lauren Barrett (fourth, 17:54) and Mackenzie Bicardy (ninth, 19:00) over this 2.8-mile course. Peabody is 5-1.BOYS CROSS COUNTRYG?ster 15, Swampscott 41At Swampscott, the Big Blue had strong performances from Oliver Daniels-Koch, who finished sixth (17:15); Andrew Richardson, seventh (17:29); Ethan Smith, eighth (18:23); Brendan McEnaney, ninth (18:54) and Michael Mauriello, 11th (19:05).Swampscott is 4-2, 2-2 NEC Small with a Saugus forfeit.Peabody 16, Beverly 45At Peabody, the Tanners had five of the top six finishers in this 2.8-mile race. Top finishers for Peabody were: Marcelo Rocha (first, 14:31); Riley Dowd (second, 14:43); Jason Karakedos (fourth, 14:52); Alex Greco (fifth, 15:24) and Cory Jordan (sixth, 15:25). Peabody is 6-0.Amesbury 17, Lynnfield 41At Lynnfield, leading the way for the Pioneers (0-8) over this 2.95-mile course was Alex Dalelio (fourth, 17:31). Anthony Metrano had a strong showing for Lynnfield (10th, 18:16).M?head 15, Winthrop 50At Winthrop, the Magicians (5-0) moved a step closer to clinching the Northeastern Conference South title outright. Marblehead took the first five spots led by Patrick Emond (15:24) and A.J. Ernst, Adam Linsky, Hillman Hollister and Peter Morrison, who took the next four spots with a time of 15:25.Mystic Valley 19, Tech 39At Lynn Woods, Mystic Valley took the top three spots, but Tech did have some excellent performances. Freshman Jayden Lowe took fourth (18:07), followed by Edgar Ortega in fifth (18:25). Jefry Cabrera took eighth (19:09), Nick Westin, 10th (19:20) and Liono Kou, 12th (21:30). Tech is 2-1.Salem 24, Revere 33At Revere, Salem senior captain Anand Patel took second place (19:10). Shawn Small, Danny Nguyen, Sam Clyne and Matt Robinson also placed for the Witches.
