The St. Mary?s girls soccer team won?t be sitting on the sidelines come tournament time this fall.Last year the Spartans did something they rarely do and that?s not qualify for the postseason. They made sure it didn?t happen again with a 5-0 win over Innovation Academy Wednesday at Manning Field.St. Mary?s (8-3-2) had a big night from Taylor Capozzi, who had a hat trick. Kaylin Deschene and freshman Mia Nikolakopoulos supplied the other two goals while Katie Donnelly and Nicole Bendicksen stoned their guest with solid play in net.?It feels good (getting back to the tournament) after the injuries and other things that got us last year,” St. Mary?s coach Jim Foley said.Marblehead 4, Malden 0At Pine Banks, the Magicians (8-1-3) qualified for the D2 state tournament. Bridget Schouder, Meghan Ryan, Mia Bongiorno and Kaelyn Attridge took care of the scoring. The Magicians, who have reached the postseason under coach Andrew Bub the past three years, led 2-0 at the half. Lauren Unterborn (3 saves) collected the shutout.Newburyport 1, Lynnfield 0At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (8-2-2) and Clippers were tied 0-0 until there were three minutes left in the game, when Lynnfield goalie Hannah Travers got beat high from 30 yards away.Leading the Pioneer defense was Kelly Look, Abby Petris and Kelly Nevils, while Emily Scollard and Paige MacEachern patrolled the midfield.BOYS SOCCERSt. Mary?s 9, Innovation 1At Tyngsborough, the Spartans (11-1) won their 11th straight game. Leading the way were Cristian Chavez and Noah Camelo (2 goals and 2 assists each), and Maroof Barry, Zach Stueve, Daniel Montoya, Matt Connolly and Mike Carroll with one. Connolly and Carroll, both eighth graders. scored their first varsity goals.Olushola George, another eighth grader, had three assists.Lynnfield 2, Newburyport 0At Newburyport, the Pioneers (5-2-4) scored both their goals in the second half and both were by Kuba Jablonka, bringing his season total to 10. Ethan Forrest had a beauty of an assist on the second goal when he won a ball at midfield and sent Jablonka on a breakaway. Nick Colucci picked up the shutout.St. John?s 0, BC High 0At Danvers, the Eagles (9-0-3, 4-0-2 Catholic Conference) enjoyed a strong game in net by Zach Rowell, who had six saves and notched his seventh shutout. Quinn Byrne had a great game on defense while Justin Blanch and Matt Gianetta controlled play in the midfield. Tom Erickson looked good in the midfield and on defense.Fenwick 1, Arl. Cath. 0At Fenwick, the Crusaders (5-5) broke the scoreless tie with 13 minutes remaining in the game, when Cam Mirra found the back of the net assisted by Anthony Maida. Connor Alexander and Troy Belleville had strong showings for the Crusaders.
