LYNN – It’s yo, ho, ho and a walk in the park Saturday when pirates take to Lynn Woods for the annual Pirate’s Day.The event, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pennybrook entrance to the woods, is a day of history, adventure and fun interactions with, well, pirates.Dave Simmons will be one of those pirates. Simmons said he takes part for two reasons, Halloween is one of his favorite annual events and his love for Lynn Woods.”I have probably spent more of my life in Lynn Woods than in any other single place,” he said in an email. “Being a pirate in Lynn Woods is an opportunity that I would never willingly pass up, even if I had to walk the plank.”Rod Sutcliffe is also a daily user of Lynn Woods and Saturday will be a pirate for the day. He said volunteering for the event is his small way of giving back and it also introduces others to the forest within the city and some of its legends.”Besides, who doesn’t like to dress up like and play the part of a pirate?” he said. “The kids love it and I get to meet new friends of whom I may never otherwise cross paths with in the woods, pun intended.”Along with hanging with pirates, kids will have a chance to tour Dungeon Rock and learn about the legend of Pirate Thomas Veal and his buried treasure. There will also be food sold at the Hog’s Breath Inn.The event is sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department and Lynn Woods Recreation. Registration is required for the event.
