Roundup: Fenwick coach Guillemette records 100th career win

The Bishop Fenwick girls soccer team defeated Archbishop Williams, 2-0, Thursday at Braintree and coach Karen Guillemette got her 100th win.Guillemette, who played soccer at Fenwick in the early 1990s, hit the milestone in her ninth year as head coach. Last spring, she recorded her 100th win as the head girls lacrosse coach. Guillemette said both events were special, but in their own way. Guillemette took over a soccer program with a long history of success. Lacrosse, on the other hand, was new at Fenwick and she was the first coach when it started seven years ago.?The kids were awesome (when she got the win Thursday). They were just as excited as I was,” Guillemette said.Fenwick led 2-0 at the half on goals by Colleen Corcoran and Sydney Brennan. Merry Harrington (2 saves) was in net. St. Mary?s 3, Matignon 0At Manning Field, Michaela Hamill scored the first St. Mary?s (9-4-2) goal and Kaylin Deschenes, the next two. Katie Donnelly and Nicki Bendicksen split the game in net.VOLLEYBALLLynnfield 3, Masconomet 1At Masco, the Pioneers (12-2) clinched the Cape Ann League championship for the fourth consecutive year. Masco won the first set, 25-15, but Lynnfield took the next three, 25-14, 27-25, 25-21. MaryKate Deighan had 11 kills and three aces and senior Emma Mancini, 15 kills and six digs.Winthrop 3, Swampscott 2At Winthrop Thursday, the Big Blue (4-10) won the first set, 25-16, lost the next two, 22-25, 17-25, won the next one, 26-24, and lost the rubber match 9-15.Gina Asipenko (7 aces, 13 kills, 3 blocks); Taylor McBurney (4 aces, 3 kills, 3.5 blocks); Leanne Nisbet (23 assists, 2 digs) and Juliette Albo (3 aces, 2 kills) played well in the loss. Antonia Tucker had five aces.GOLFCAL OPENAt Far Corners, Lynnfield had two golfers finishing in the top 10 — Mike Waisnor and Nick Eliopoulos. They finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with 60 and 59 points over 18 holes.In finishing in the top 10, both earn a spot as Cape Ann League First Team All-Stars. The winner of the Open was Krystal Knight of Pentucket, who had 68 points. She made five birdies, according to Lynnfield coach Roger Lauzon.BOYS SOCCERLynnfield 6, Amesbury 1At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (8-2-5) clinched at least a share of the Cape Ann League Small title. They?re currently battling it out for the top spot with Manchester-Essex and Rockport. Kuba Jablonka had three goals while Sam Forrest and Matt Weiss played well on defense.
