Pair charged in Snapchat assault held without bail

SALEM – Two Saugus teenagers entered not guilty pleas Friday in Superior Court to assault to rape and indecent assault and kidnapping charges stemming from a September incident transmitted, according to a court document, to online video.Rashad Deihim, 19, and Kailyn Bonia, 18 appeared together before Judge Timothy Feeley and entered their pleas after Assistant District Attorney Susan Dolhun listed charges filed against the pair, including two counts of assault to rape, four counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older, kidnapping and posing a child in a state of nudity.Feeley ordered the two held without bail.According to a Lynn District Court criminal complaint, the attack on a 16-year-old girl occurred on Sept. 3 in the woods behind the Waybright School baseball diamond in Saugus.Police responding to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital described the girl, according to the complaint, as “heavily inebriated… and it appeared that she had several abrasions covering her entire body.”Medical personnel advised police they suspected the girl had been sexually assaulted.In an interview several days later with investigators, the girl said she did not recall the attack, but police received a call on Sept. 9 from an acquaintance of the girl who, according to the complaint, said she received a Snapchat video on the night of Sept. 3 and used her mobile device to take pictures of the video images.She told police she could identify other individuals in the video and described to investigators how three individuals shown in the video touched the girl while she appeared to attempt to fight off the three and made “attempts to run away naked,” the complaint quoted the acquaintance as telling police.Feeley order Bonia and Deihim to return to court for a hearing on Oct. 24. Charges are also filed against a 17-year-old Saugus resident, including kidnapping and assault to rape, in juvenile court.
