The St. John’s Prep football team is heading into the Division 1 North playoffs riding a massive wave of momentum. On Saturday at Cronin Memorial Stadium, the Prep came out of the gates sluggish against Catholic Conference rival BC High. But after some halftime tweaks, the Eagles turned on the jets and turned homecoming day into a happy one thanks to 23 unanswered second half points and a 33-14 win over BC High. The Eagles (6-1, 3-0 Catholic Conference) are done with their regular season schedule as they have a bye next week before the playoffs begin on the first weekend of November. The Prep would be the top seed in D1 North if the playoffs kicked off today but on Saturday they got a push from BC.The other Eagles took a 7-0 first quarter lead on Sam Holleran’s touchdown pass to Nick Gill. The Prep seemed to restore order when Oliver Eberth (11-of-16, 129 yards, 3 TD) hit tight end Jake Burt for a five yard touchdown to tie it before taking the lead on Justin Foley’s 33 yard field goal in the final minute of the half.BC, however, got a long kick return and then paid it off on Holleran’s second scoring pass of the half to Gill to send the Eagles to the locker room with a 14-10 lead. The final 22 minutes would belong to the Prep, however, as Eberth threw a 31 yard strike to James DiBennedetto to give his team a 17-14 lead heading to the fourth. The senior from Andover then hit Owen Rockett for a four yard TD to make it 24-14.A safety increased the lead to 12 before Rockett’s 84 yard pick six provided the coup de gras for the Prep. Tailback Cody Harwood had another strong performance as he carried 21 times for 129 yards.BOYS SOCCERSt. John’s 6, Catholic Memorial 0At Danvers, the Eagles (13-0-3, 6-0-2 Catholic Conference) clinched at least a share of a fifth consecutive league title as Pat Foley and Paul Magazzu each scored twice.
