LYNN – The kids will eat like kings and the adults will relish their hamburgers, but there will be another twist to the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn’s 24th annual Steak & Burger Dinner on Oct. 28.In addition to presenting three major awards, as part of its 125th anniversary celebration, the club will honor all Hall of Fame inductees as well as past recipients of the Commitment to Youth and Robert Kennedy Helping Hands awards, according to Obie Barker, executive director of the club.”This gives us an opportunity to recognize people who have had a significant impact in our mission of molding the lives of young people,” Barker said.This year, the club will induct Eastern Bank Executive Vice President Joseph Riley into its Hall of Fame. Lynn Deputy Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jaye Warry will receive the Commitment to Youth Award, while DeIulis Brothers Construction of Lynn will receive the Robert Kennedy Helping Hands Award.The fundraising event will be held at the Boys & Girls Club at 25 N. Common St. with a reception and silent auction at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6:30. There will also be a video presentation highlighting the impact the club has had on current and former members.As is the custom, Boys & Girls Club members in attendance will dine on steaks, while the adults will eat hearty hamburgers. The food will be donated and prepared by Robert Gaudet and the Porthole Restaurant of Lynn for the 24th consecutive year.
