SAUGUS – Target the Darkness: Community for a Cure was held at World Series Park in Saugus Sept. 20 and raised $42,000 for the TargetCancer Foundation, which supports research for cures for the rare and lesser-known cancers. More than 1,000 people attended.Over 400 people took part in the walk-a-thon. The event also consisted of an opening and closing ceremony, a bag illumination in memory of those who lost their lives to cancer, various booths and a moon-bounce for the children. Entertainment was provided by The Senior Tones, Terri DiChiara-O’Soro and her band, Danny Weddle, Bobby Fosmire, Jimmy Sparks and his band Rockus, BeatConnXtionz hip hop dancers and the Endicott College dance troupe. The whole event was emceed by Randy Barnes. As with a similar event in 2012, this fundraiser was again done in memory of Saugus resident and devoted family man Dave Webster, who was 47 when he passed away in December 2011, from cholangiocarcinoma after being diagnosed only a few months previously with this untreatable cancer. The Saugus committee that organized and ran this event, under the chairmanship of Joann Webster, would like to thank the many businesses and people who made donations of all kinds. The committee stated, “The tremendous outpouring of support from the Saugus community was what made our event so successful.”For more information about TargetCancer, check out targetcancerfoundation.org.
