The Bishop Fenwick football team made it back-to-back Catholic Central League Large championships with a 22-0 win over Archbishop Williams Friday at Memorial Field in Braintree. The Crusaders (7-0) scored two touchdowns in the second quarter. The first came on a 40-yard pass from Matt Renzulli to Brian Fitzpatrick with Reny hitting Cody Mullen with the conversion pass. The second was an eight-yard pass from Renzulli to Myles Connor with Renzulli running for the conversion. The Crusaders wrapped up the scoring in the third quarter on a Renzulli 11-yard run (the kick failed).Fenwick coach Dave Woods said his team played an excellent game defensively with a bunch of sacks and two interceptions. The first interception was by Renzulli and the second by Will McGuinness who, in his first varsity start, returned the ball 40-plus yards to set the Crusaders up inside the 10 for their final touchdown.”It’s always good to go into the playoffs on a winning note,” Woods said.Winthrop 27, Danvers 16At Danvers, the Vikings trailed 16-13 with 3:10 left in the game, but it was more than enough time for them to get the job done. They marched 70 yards down field with sophomore Jon Gonzales taking the ball five yards for the touchdown. They rushed for the conversion to take a 21-16 lead. Winthrop scored again before time ran out on a Dylan Driscoll three-yard run for the 27-16 finalJake Chiudina scored the first Winthrop touchdown on a four-yard run and Zach Deeb caught a 40-yard screen pass from Driscoll for the second touchdown.Danvers scored on a nine-yard Nick Andreas pass to Jim English and on an 18-yard run by Richie Martino. The Vikings are the Northeastern Conference Small champs (7-0, 5-0 NEC) and would appear to be lined up for a No. 1 seed in Division 4.
