The Bishop Fenwick volleyball team eked out a 3-2 win over Danvers Friday and it couldn’t have come at a better time.Fenwick coach Adam DeBaggis was poised to get his 100th career win and his players had a cake waiting in the wings to celebrate the accomplishment. Although there were a few anxious moments, the Crusaders pulled out the win in five sets, 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 23-25, 15-8.DeBaggis, who is in his sixth year coaching the Crusaders, said when he started coaching he was new to the sport.”I was kind of doing it as a favor to the AD at first, but I started to really enjoy it. I had good players. It kind of just snowballed,” DeBaggis said.DeBaggis said the 2010 and 2011 teams both went to the sectional final and lost to Melrose. In 2010, the girls won the sectionals last year were playing varsity as freshmen and the experience they picked made a big difference.In the win over Danvers, Sam Mancinelli had 35 assists. Lindsay Donahue had eight kills and 12 digs and Melissa MacKenzie had nine kills and three aces. The Crusaders (13-6) wrap up the regular season Monday against Mystic Valley.Peabody 3, Revere 0At Revere, the Tanners (16-1) won 25-8, 25-14, 25-9 with strong play from Marina DeMild (3 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks); Emily Diezemann (4 kills and 2 blocks); Courtney Bua (4 kills) and Hannah Kemp (9 assists).N. Reading 3, Marblehead 0At Marblehead, the Hornets won 31-29, 25-16, 25-12. Maeve Daley had six kills for Marblehead, Hannah Cohen, 10 kills, and Emily Promise 15 kills. Marblehead ends its regular season Monday against Danvers.BOYS SOCCERPeabody 4, Revere 1At Peabody, the Tanners clinched the Northeastern Conference Large title outright with the win. Peabody (14-1-2, 13-0-2) was battling it out for the top spot with Beverly. This is the Tanners sixth NEC title in seven years, according to coach Stan McKeen.Ben Manoogian had two goals and two assists with Connor Wolff and Bobbie Caproni scoring the other two goals.Danvers 1, Gloucester 0Kyle Cahill scored the winning goal for the Falcons, who qualified for the state tournament with a 7-5-2 record.FIELD HOCKEYMarblehead 1, Swampscott 0At Bishop Fenwick, Hannah Fobert scored the only goal the Magicians (13-2-2) would need. Cassidy Alla (6 saves) kept Swampscott at bay with a strong game in net. Marblehead also had solid play from Kendall Casey, Olivia Hazlett and Abby Seay.The Big Blue (10-4-4) had a great game on defense from Angela Videtta. The midfield also came up big.”This was our best game of the season,” Swampscott coach Jamie Spano said. “Hopefully it will set the tone for the tournament.”Ipswich 2, Peabody 1At Peabody, Ipswich took a 2-0 lead in the first half, but the Tanners made things interesting when Sydney Sullivan scored with five minutes left in the game. Evie Anderle set up the play on a breakaway. Alison Daley and Catherine McGrath split the game in net. This was the final game for the the Tanners (7-8-5), who just missed qualifying for the state tournament.GIRLS SOCCERSt. Clement 2, Tech 0At Hormel Stadium, the Tigers played tough in their final game of the season, but they couldn’t overcome a 2-0 deficit at the half. Senior captain Emily Guzman was solid at forward and on defense. Seniors Cindy Villegas on defense and Brenda Guevara at sweeper also looked good.
