The St. Mary?s boys soccer team got just about everyone involved in the scoring Tuesday in an 8-3 win over Cardinal Spellman at Brockton.
The Spartans (14-1-2) led 6-0 at the half on goals by Noah Camelo, Daniel Montoya, Cristian Chavez, Dan Hennessey, Matt Jalbert and Jimoh George. Patrick Morin-Plante and Camela rounded out the scoring in the second half.
St. Mary?s plays Saugus today at 6 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the girls team. The Saugus-St. Mary?s girls play at 4 p.m. The Saugus boys need need the win to get into the state tournament.
Boston Prep 2, KIPP 0
At Manning Field, the KIPP boys soccer team squandered a golden opportunity to clinch a playoff spot. This was the Panthers final regular season home game and in keeping, they recognized all their seniors. The boys fell behind early and could never get the offense going. When they did, the Boston Prep goalie was up to the challenge, making several spectacular saves to preserve the shutout. The KIPP girls won their game against Boston Prep earlier in the night.
The KIPP boys are 6-5-3 and can still qualify for the playoffs.The Panthers play at Phoenix Charter Academy Friday.
Danvers 3, Salem 1
At Danvers, the Falcons clinched at least a share of the Northeastern Conference South with the win.
GIRLS SOCCER
English 3, Everett 0
At Everett, the Bulldogs (5-13-2) finished their season on a high note. They led 2-0 at the half on goals by Alexa Zayas and Krista Bowden (her first varsity goal). Taegon Nelson wrapped up the scoring and her high school soccer career with a goal in the second half. Kaitlyn Nadeau picked up her fifth shutout of the season.
?We?re undefeated the last three games,” English coach Ed McNeil said. “That was a nice way to end the season.”
Danvers 5, Gloucester 0
Emily Murphy had two goals and Meaghan McCarriston, Sarah McCarriston and Allie Zunick, one each, for the Falcons.
GOLF
St. John?s 237, Malden Cath. 266At Salem Country Club, the Eagles clinched the Catholic Conference title with the win. They?re 6-1 in the conference and 15-2-1 overall. The Eagles are coming off a second place finished in the Division 1 state tournament played Monday at Springfield Country Club. They still have one more make-up match.
