The Peabody High boys and girls soccer teams made it a clean sweep in Northeastern Conference All-Star voting.Ben Manoogian took home the Most Valuable Player award and his coach, Stan McKeen, receiving Coach of the Year honors for the boys. Peabody’s Caroline Colbert is the girls soccer MVP and Dennis Desroches is the NEC girls Coach of the Year. The Tanner teams are both coming off a great season. The boys finished 15-1-2 and won the Northeastern Conference Large for the sixth time in seven years. The girls finished 15-1-2, 15-0-1 in the NEC, and also won the conference.Manoogian has had a monster season offensively with 30 goals and nine assists. He scored in 14 games with three, three-goal games (two back-to-back) and two four-goal games (back-to-back). The senior captain will be attending Connecticut College where he hopes to play soccer.McKeen, who is a three-time NEC Coach of the Year, cited a couple of things about Manoogian that make him a special player.”I think it’s his knowledge of the game, his skills and his ability to read the field really well,” McKeen said. “He gets himself open for passes. He’s not the fastest guy, but he’s very deceptive. He manages to get himself open and he has a great shot.”Colbert is a two-year captain for the Tanners. She finished the regular season with a conference-leading 28 points (15 goals, 13 assists) and she’s an Eastern Mass All-Star. In her four years as the starting center midfielder, the team only lost one NEC game.”(She’s) the true definition of what a team player should be as she leads our team in assists, repeating the performance from a year ago. (She’s) always looking to get others in involved,” Desroches said.Colbert, who is in the top 10 percent of her class academically, will attend Stonehill College where she plans to continue her soccer career. The All-Conference First Team, in addition to Manoogian, includes two Classical players, Abitalib Girdia and Karegeya Nasibu.
