REVERE – A city fire captain is suspended with pay after police arrested the firefighter for assault on a child after allegedly fighting with trick-or-treaters on Halloween.Carl E. Holmberg, 44, of 117 Dale St., was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a child with injury; and three counts of assault and battery; at 7:43 p.m. Friday.There were no life-threatening injuries, Revere Police Lt. Amy O’Hara said in an email Sunday.Police gave few details of the alleged incident, and Holmberg could not be reached for comment Sunday.But WCVB news reported that Holmberg’s wife said she, her husband and their 6-year-old child were trick-or-treating Friday when a group of teenagers began harassing the family. More teens arrived, and Holmberg’s wife said she called police as the teens attacked Holmberg, according to the report.The station said the father of an 11-year-old alleged victim told reporters that Holmberg had a golf club and hit two teens. The father said the teens were cutting through Holmberg’s yard while trick-or-treating.Holmberg is currently suspended with pay pending a disciplinary hearing, according to O’Hara. She added that Holmberg is a 15-year veteran who has had no prior incidents. Holmberg is expected to be arraigned in Chelsea District Court today.
