SWAMPSCOTT – The Swampscott High swim team has a new coach.
Christopher Havens, who has been working as a swimming coach for the Sea Serpents out of the Jewish Community Center in Marblehead for the past year, will take over for Meaghan Simpson.
Havens, 23, is from Nashville, Tenn., where he swam competitively growing up. Havens said he moved up this way for a change of pace and to be with family.
“I heard the position was available and was looking for something to take swim coaching to the next level,” Havens said. “I’m really looking forward to meeting the team and I’m looking forward to a great season.”
Swampscott High athletic director Jon Flanagan said Simpson had an opportunity to coach at the club level and has moved out of the area.
“Chris had worked at the JCC for some time,” Flanagan said. “He comes with extensive swimming background. Everyone I’ve spoken with says great things about his knowledge of swimming and what a nice guy he is. I think he’ll be a good fit for the program.”
