SAUGUS – For Republican congressional candidate Richard Tisei, the third time was definitely not the charm.Tisei suffered his third defeat in as many elections Tuesday when he was soundly beaten by Seth Moulton in the 6th District. Moulton was ahead by 14 percentage points, 55-41, with two-thirds of the precincts reporting.”Public service has been something I’ve really enjoyed,” said Tisei following his concession phone call to Moulton. He said he wished the new congressman well, assuring his supporters that Moulton will serve Massachusetts with the same dedication that he served his country as a Marine. However, Tisei said that discord awaits Moulton in Washington and for that, he will offer whatever guidance he can. “We do face a lot of problems as a country right now,” he said.Tisei lost his first congressional bid to Democratic incumbent John Tierney by 1 percent in 2012. In 2010, he ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor as Charlie Baker’s running mate.Tisei’s communications director Charlie Szold said the campaign strategy remained consistent despite having to run against Moulton when Tierney was the expected opponent.”His pitch to voters hasn’t changed from Sept. 9 to Nov. 4,” Szold said.Szold said Tisei had formed strong relationships with residents and town officials during his four years as the state Senate minority leader, which capped a 26-year career as a state legislator.Tisei became the youngest Republican ever elected to the state legislature when he successfully ran for state representative in 1984 at age 23. He served six years in the House before getting elected to the state senate in 1990. Tisei served in the senate until running for lieutenant governor in 2010.
