SAUGUS – When it was over, state Rep. Donald Wong was too much to handle as he soundly defeated Democratic challenger Christopher Finn in the 9th Essex District race.According to Wong’s campaign manager, Ellen Faiella, Wong received almost two-thirds of the votes cast, winning by a 66-34 margin.”He has worked so very hard for all of us,” she said.Finn called Wong to concede less than an hour after the polls closed.”I told him I look forward to working with him in the future,” said Wong, adding that public officials should never deviate from the common goal.”Let’s bring all the good ideas together and work as one,” he said.Wong thanked his family for their continued support and his grandchildren for their patience during the campaign.”I didn’t get time to play with them,” he said. “From the bottom of my heart, I thank everyone.”Finn said he was pleased with his campaign despite the disappointing outcome.”I’m happy with what I was able to do, I’m happy with my message,” he said.Moving forward, Finn said he plans to continue in his role as a “public servant” having been a town meeting member since last year in Precinct 9. “Unfortunately, it won’t be at the State House,” he said.Saugus Selectman Stephen Castinetti said he was “absolutely thrilled” that Wong had won a third term, noting the commitment Wong has made to the town.”I’m glad he’s got two more years to help us out,” said Castinetti.
