PEABODY ? Peabody Police announced that a new version of the My Police Department, or MyPD, application is available for free download to people who want to connect with police via mobile device.?We have been using social media like Facebook and Twitter for quite a few years now,” Deputy Chief Martin Cohan said in a press release. “The MyPD app is not meant to replace those or be another social network. It is a tool for citizens to keep on their phones so when they need a phone number, to send a crime tip, or want to research something, they have it readily available in an easy-to-use app.”Police said a few thousand people already use the app to connect with the Peabody Police, but an updated version has more options, and is redesigned.?With the prior version almost any tweets got sent as an alert,” Cohan said. “With our new version we will send only more important tweets as alerts.”The app also includes resources and links on topics such as victim resources, domestic violence, press releases, missing children and more. The public can also use the app to submit tips on crimes or quality-of-life issues. MyPD is free for residents, has no advertising and users do not need to share personal information or set up an account to use the app.To download the app, visit your app store and search “MyPD.” The user can choose the appropriate local police department (Salem and Beverly police also use the app).
