Roundup: Fenwick girls soccer sees season end

The Bishop Fenwick girls soccer team saw its Division 3 North tournament run come to a grinding halt with a 1-0 loss to Triton Wednesday in quarterfinal action at Fenwick.The Crusaders kept the pressure on for the entire game, but Triton broke through in the second half and that was all the offense the Vikings would need. Fenwick had a goal called back just prior to Triton scoring.?We had a bunch of opportunities, but we couldn’t buy a goal,” Fenwick coach Karen Guillemette said.The Crusaders, who lost to Lynnfield in the quarterfinals last year, finish at 14-5.?Everybody played well, “Guillemette said. “They worked their butts off. Sometimes it bounces your way and sometimes it doesn’t.”Lynnfield 4, Weston 1At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (14-4-2) struck early and often in the first half of their Division 3 North quarterfinal game, but it took a wake-up call in the form of a Weston goal 52 seconds in to jumpstart the offense.Paige MacEachern scored the first of her two goals five minutes into the game, with a Liz Reed assist, and 10 minutes later, Reed scored what would be the game winner. MacEachern made it 3-1 19 minutes into the game (Reed assist) and Jess Duhaime closed out the Pioneers’ scoring with a goal at the 27-minute mark.?Weston is a great team. They’re very skilled and they move the ball well,” Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont said.Lynnfield will play Triton in the Division 3 North semifinals Monday at Manning Field (7).In other soccer tournament action, Peabody lost to Central Catholic, 7-0, in the Division 1 North quarterfinals. Lynnfield defeated Triton in the semifinals last year, but lost to Newburyport in the final.BOYS SOCCERSt. John’s Prep 2, Westford Academy 0At Danvers, the Eagles (16-1-3) advanced to the Division 1 North semifinals where they’ll play the winner of Malden vs. Framingham on Tuesday at Manning Field.St. John’s Prep did all its scoring in the first half with goals from Pat Foley and Aiden Robinson. Zach Rowell (4 saves) notched his 13th shutout. The Eagles have reached the sectional final the last two years, losing to Somerville both times. Somerville did not make the tournament this year.VOLLEYBALLLynnfield 3, Mystic Valley 0At Malden, the Pioneers will play Notre Dame Academy in the Division 3 North final Saturday at Woburn (4) after a clean sweep of Mystic Valley in the semifinals. Lynnfield won 25-17, 25-11, 25-11 with senior Emma Mancini contributing 24 kills and eight digs, junior Shannon Ryan, 14 assists and nine digs, and junior Jessica Dwyer, 15 digs.
