Peabody, Marblehead boys bounced from tournament

November 7, 2014 by jerekson

The Peabody High boys soccer team saw its tournament run come to an end in a 1-0 loss to Brookline on a rain-swept night at Peabody High.Peabody coach Stan McKeen knew heading into the game Brookline would be tough.?They’re a very good team. They moved the ball well. They scored a goal early and then pretty much played great defense. They had us chasing the ball all night,” McKeen said.McKeen said his team had one good scoring opportunity in the first half when the ball hit the crossbar and sailed high, but that was about it.?They just did a better job moving the ball than we did,” McKeen said. “As well as we played against Everett (a 7-1 win), today we struggled moving it and that’s because they were a good team.”This was a quarterfinal round with the winner advancing to the semifinals against the winner of East Boston-Acton Boxborough. That game is being played today.Kevin Lebel played well in net for the Tanners and Christian Morales did well on defense. Peabody finishes the season 16-2-2. The Tanners won the Northeastern Conference North title for the second year in a row and the sixth time in seven years. In other tournament action, the Marblehead High boys soccer team lost to Tewksbury, 1-0, in overtime in the Division 3 North quarterfinals. Marblehead was the No. 10 seed and Tewksbury was No. 2.
