It’s a great day for area youth football

November 10, 2014 by Matt Fraser

PEABODY – Through eight games the Lynn Chargers youth football team (grades five and six) has thrived through a common trend; scoring early and often while its defense suffocates the opposition from start to finish. The results?A perfect 9-0 record, its latest victory, a 39-0 masterpiece, coming on Sunday afternoon against Peabody (Black) in a Spartan Division semifinal at a busy Bishop Fenwick High School.?This is a great football team,” said Coach Dajuan Thomas. “We?re going to continue pushing forward as a group and see where it takes us.”Lynn will take on Swampscott in the championship game.Offensively, the Chargers were led by the duo of quarterback Jahmari Hamilton-Brown and dual-threat Adonis Sanchez who hauled in a 74-yard scoring pass to give Lynn a 14-0 lead just 3:27 into the opening quarter.Moments before, a one-sided sequence saw the Chargers break the ice on a 50-yard punt return for a touchdown by Angel Martinez before Anthony Timmons conversion run (worth one point) made it 7-0.Lynn would then recover a fumble on the ensuing kick off.?We?ve had a lot of quick starts, which has led to big scoring totals,” said Thomas whose team has averaged 35 points a game.Brown and Sanchez would hook up again on Lynn?s next drive, this time a 32 yard pass and catch resulting in a 20-0 lead with 40 seconds left.A 70-yard interception return for a touchdown by Martinez put an end to a lengthy Tanners drive that lasted from the start of the second period until the 52-second mark.Peabody mustered just 45 yards of total offense in the half against a hard-nosed Chargers? defense, which has yielded just eight points all season.?We run a basic 6-4 scheme but we use a lot of different designs to stop the run,” said Thomas. I have some of the best linebackers in the league and they don?t give away too many first downs.”Sanchez scored once in each of the next two periods, first on a 41-yard run at 5:00 before returning an interception 60 yards 2:02 into the final period.Lynn?s other representative, also the Chargers (grades seven and eight), punched its respective ticket to the Gladiator Division final with a 31-14 victory over Beverly.Lynn?s Eric Aboagye-Adinkra proved the story of the game, rushing for three scores including a 49-yard romp that put the final nail in the Panthers? coffin with 7:09 remaining in the game.?He?s one of our go-to-guys out of the backfield,” said Coach Fred Clay of Aboagye-Adinkra who scored in each of the first two quarters on runs of 10 and 13 yards respectively.?He fires us up as a team and really gets us going.”Beverly?s first quarter scoring came from a blocked extra point return for a touchdown by Cooper McNinch (worth 2 points) and an 8-yard touchdown pass from Keith Ridley to Matthew Cross.Trailing 12-8 after 20 minutes of play, the Panthers took the lead early in the second half on a 19-yard run from Robert Adams. The Chargers would answer the bell however, regaining the advantage with 23 seconds remaining in the period when Traiquan Menter found pay dirt from 14 yards out.Lynn would then go on to control the final quarter which in addition to the aforementioned work of Aboagye-Adinkra, included a 13-yard scoring run from Wando Perez.Swampscott secured its spot in the Spartan Division finals with a 12-9 victory over Salem, the winning score, a two-yard touchdown run from Dominic Decrescenzo at 7:26 of the fourth quarter.Cameron O?Brien added a 7-yard touchdown run for the victors while used a safety and 11-yard run from Thomas Beauregard to keep things close.
