DANVERS – Frenetic may best describe Cody Harwood?s running style. Darting and weaving, slashing and dashing, St. John?s Prep?s senior tailback is hard to contain, a fact driven home in Saturday afternoon?s 42-7 dismantling of Central Catholic.Operating behind the Eagles? dominant offensive front, Harwood was at his big-game best as he gashed the Raiders for 190 yards rushing and touchdown runs of 29, 10 and 39 yards.Eagles? coach Brian St. Pierre noted that Harwood runs much bigger than the five feet, seven inches and 175 pounds he?s listed at on the roster.?Cody just runs so hard. The first guy doesn?t bring him down and he runs through arm tackles. And, he?d be the first guy to tell you how good the offensive line is,” St. Pierre said.On his first score, Harwood tested the middle of the line, spun out to his left, and found clear sailing from 29 yards, staking the Eagles to a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. At that point, Harwood said he sensed it was going to be a memorable day for the Prep.?I feel we?ve definitely progressed as a team all season and after that first drive I thought something special was going to happen. We also knew, as seniors, that this could be our last game [at Cronin Stadium] and we wanted it to be special,” Harwood said. “The offensive line practiced tough all week. They were up to the test today and set the tone right from the beginning.”Harwood and his mates clearly want something more Friday night when they head to Everett for the D1 North championship game. The Crimson Tide dealt the Eagles their lone loss of the year, 34-23, on Sept. 27.?We know what we have to do and it starts with having a great week of practice,” Harwood said.
