The Lynn Housing Authority & Neighborhood Development (LHAND) Scholarship Open raised $33,000, which will be used to provide college scholarships for high school seniors next spring. The golf tournament, run by the employees of LHAND, was held Oct. 3 at Kelley Greens in Nahant.Approximately 100 golfers teed it up to benefit Lynn’s college-bound students. Taking first place was the Gannon Building Association team consisting of Mike Marks, Tom Fabrizio, Terry Ward and Clark Morrison. Other notable prizes included a flat-screen television won by Sue Mageary. The golf open serves as the primary fundraiser for the LHAND Scholarship Committee. In June, the LHAND gave more than $35,000 to graduating seniors. With the large turnout at this year’s tournament, it will likely be exceeding that amount next spring.”It’s a great day,” LHAND board chair Laura Walsh said. “Whether you break a course record or your driver, the event is for an excellent cause and everyone always has a good time.”Walsh said that LHAND is grateful not only for those who played in the tournament, but also the businesses that donated money or raffle items, as well as the employees who volunteered their time. “It’s a wonderful event, and it truly shows the goodwill that the people of Lynn have. Everyone gives something so that these seniors can go to college and pursue a successful career and live a fulfilled life,” Walsh said. The LHAND Scholarship Committee will begin its work in January to inform seniors of the scholarship and review applications for the coming year.
