The St. Mary’s football team scored 28 unanswered points to defeat East Boston, 34-14, Friday at East Boston.The Spartans spread the offense around, with Connor Sakowich and John Gaeta each scoring two touchdowns. St. Mary’s is 6-4, guaranteeing a seventh straight winning season.St. Mary’s drew first blood when Connor Sakowich bulled his way in from the one, but the rush failed. East Boston came right back when Kevin Simatra found Joel Pastrana with a 19-yard touchdown pass. The conversion was good, giving the Jets an 8-6 lead that didn’t last long.The Spartans answered with 28 straight points to put the game away. Sakowich gave St. Mary’s the lead for good on a 61-yard touchdown run, with John Gaeta converting on a rush. Gaeta was up next for the Spartans. He scored on a 10-yard run for a 20-8 St. Mary’s lead that jumped to 26-8 on a 31-yard run by Abraham Toe.The Spartans put one more on the board when Gaeta went in from the two and Alex Maghsoudi rushed on the conversion for a 34-6 lead. East Boston got one back before the final whistle on a one-yard run by Justin Roman.?Overall we played pretty well on both sides of the ball,” St. Mary’s coach Matt Durgin said. “I think we spread it around pretty good.”Durgin said both Sakowich and Toe have now rushed for more than 1,000 yards.The Spartans will take a couple of days off and then start preparing for their clash with Lynn Tech the night before Thanksgiving.In other non-playoff football action, English lost to Malden Catholic, 33-0. Danvers defeated Revere, 21-7. Gloucester defeated Medford, 35-14, and Dracut topped Salem, 41-20.Swampscott will play Triton today at 2 p.m. at Bishop Fenwick. The game is at Fenwick because the Triton bleachers have been condemned. In other games today, Classical is at Newton South at 1 p.m., Marblehead is at Beverly (1), Marian/Keefe is at Tech (10:30) and Peabody is at Central Catholic at 1 p.m.
