LYNN – He lives in Lynn, ran a basketball clinic in Lynn and brings his collegiate team to practice and play in Lynn. Now David Lindberg is looking a little farther afield after being recently promoted to serve as the Fisher College Director of International Admissions.”It’s such an exciting thing to grow with the college,” Lindberg said. “It’s a really, really special place and to continue to grow in a place you’re comfortable with is a special thing.”Fisher College is a four-year, private liberal arts college with about 800 students in the Back Bay of Boston and satellite locations in Brockton, New Bedford and North Attleborough. Lindberg came to the college in 2005 as the head men’s basketball coach and he later became associate director of admissions.Fisher has developed a significant partnership with the city. With space in the Back Bay at a premium (the dorms overlook the Hatch Shell, Lindberg said) the athletic teams have had to look outside Boston for accommodations. The baseball team uses Fraser Field as its home field, while the Brenner Gymnasium at the Fecteau-Leary School is home to Lindberg’s basketball team.Fisher College admissions officers also visit each Lynn high school every year. Lindberg also ran a basketball camp during the summer for many international students who were taking classes at the college in addition to some students from Lynn Tech and St. Mary’s.”In working with the city of Lynn, it’s really turned out to be a 100-percent positive experience,” said Lindberg, a native of Ellsworth, Maine. With declining population and graduation rates in New England, Lindberg said that Fisher, like many schools, is increasingly looking for international students. The school currently has students from 35 countries including China, Japan, Sweden and Spain, he said.”Boston is the No. 1 college town in the world, and a lot of students are looking for a small private college where they can be comfortable,” Lindberg said.Fisher College President Thomas McGovern hopes Lindberg’s success on the basketball court – he has led the Falcons to four Sunrise Conference Championships and back-to-back trips to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Tournament – will translate to the office of international admissions.”Simply put, David Lindberg is a winner with a track record of leading teams to success,” McGovern said in a statement. “A collaborative approach with an aim toward excellence is precisely what we need leading our International Admissions Office.”
