The Lynnfield football team made a little bit of history on Thursday morning at Pioneer Stadium.Never in the long history of Pioneer football had they won 10 games in a season, but thanks to three Dan Sullivan touchdown passes and a dominating defense, Lynnfield did just that with a 35-0 win over North Reading.The Sullivan air show got started early as his 49 yard bomb to Jon Knee gave Lynnfield a 7-0 lead after one quarter. The seniors hooked up again in the second quarter, this time from 16 yards, to give the Pioneers a 14-0 lead at the break.Lynnfield turned on the afterburners in the third quarter. First, it was Kevin Lee pounding in from three yards before Sullivan hit Dan Bronshvayg for a 37 yard score and a 28-0 lead.Jake Rourke polished off the scoring with a one-yard dive in the fourth quarter for Lynnfield.The Pioneers finish the season at 11-1, tied for the best record on the North Shore with Bishop Fenwick and Winthrop.Xaverian 34, St. John’s 13At the Hawk Bowl in Westwood, the battle for the Catholic Conference championship turned into a second half runaway for the Super Bowl bound Hawks (12-0). They outscored St. John’s (8-3), 27-7, on the strength of three touchdown runs from Noah Sorrento.Sorrento finished the day with four in all as it helped off set a pair of Oliver Eberth to Owen Rockett touchdown tosses for the Prep.Sorrento’s first touchdown, a one-yarder, opened the scoring in the second quarter. Eberth hooked up with Rockett for a 14 yard score late in the second to make it 7-6 at the break after a missed extra point.Jake Farrell got the Xaverian express going in the second half with a 32 yard dash. Sorrento then took over as his two yard dive upped the lead to 20-6 after three. Eberth’s seven yard pass to Rockett got the Eagles back within seven (20-13) but two more Sorrento touchdown runs put the game away.Beverly 37, Salem 0At Hurd Stadium in Beverly, the Panthers (5-6) finished the season on an uptick as Matt Madden torched the 0-11 Witches for three first half touchdowns as the hosts cruised to a 30-0 lead at halftime.Madden got the Panthers started early as he finished the first drive of the game with a four yard run. He polished off the next drive with a 56 yard jaunt and it was 14-0 after one following Brian Flaherty’s two-point pass to Bryan Flaherty.Madden made it a hat trick early in the second with a 30 yard dash that upped the gap to 22-0 after a Christian Etchavarria rush. Beverly closed the first half with a flourish as Garrity hit Christian Miller for a 41 yard touchdown to send the Panthers to the break with a 30 point lead.Miller closed out the scoring early in the third quarter with a 21 yard run.Danvers 20, Gloucester 6At Dr. Deering Stadium in Danvers, the Falcons (6-5) Richie Martino dominated from the opening kick as his three touchdown runs (1, 8, 21) led his team to its first win in almost a decade.Danvers led 13-0 at the half on Martino’s first two TD runs before Gloucester (5-6) closed the gap to 13-7 on a 41 yard touchdown pass from Mike Cody to Alex Enes. Martino, however, put the game away with his third run late in the fourth.
