LYNN – The problem for Rolando Casillas was not only what he tried to take out of the Lynn Walmart on Black Friday, but also what he brought in.Lynn police said Casillas was carrying a loaded handgun and heroin when he allegedly went on a shoplifting spree early Friday morning.Casillas, 29, of Boston, and two companions set off store alarms as they tried to leave the store at 2:45 a.m. Friday, when the store was crowded with bargain hunters. When the three retreated from the exit, Det. Joseph Chadbourne chased them down and converged on Casillas with Det. Michael Ferraro and officers Charles Griffin and Timothy Nerich.Chadbourne, who was working a paid detail in the 780 Lynnway store, recognized Casillas from a police response call several weeks ago and started searching him.?Mr. Casillas was very fidgety and kept trying to remove his hands from the railing that I had him place them on. I felt a hard object in Mr. Casillas? fanny pack and open(ed) it up. I immediately found a loaded, black, Taurus handgun,” Chadbourne wrote in his report filed Friday in District Court.Chadbourne found a second loaded ammunition magazine in the fanny pack and wrote in his report that Casillas did not reply when he asked him in Spanish if Casillas had a license for the handgun. As Officer Michael McHale continued searching Casillas, a video game and tablet case fell out of Casillas? jacket, the report said.Nerich searched one of the two other men with Casillas and found an RCA Voyager 7 tablet, an RCA Pro 10 tablet with a keyboard, Cobra walkie-talkies and Hex SL wireless speakers in Justin Lessard?s backpack. The items carried a total value of $199.48, according to police.Brought to the Lynn police station for booking, Casillas, whose last known address is Pine Street in Boston, expressed concern over police taking his gun even as officers, according to Chadbourne?s report, found a sandwich bag in one of his pockets containing 22 small “twists” of heroin and three large twists with a combined weight of 33.6 grams.Judge Catherine Campbell set $200,000 bail for Casillas after he pleaded not guilty in District Court Friday morning to carrying a loaded firearm, trafficking heroin in excess of 28 grams, carrying an unlicensed firearm, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, unlicensed possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card and shoplifting property with more than $100 value by concealment.Campbell subsequently ordered Casillas held without bail in connection with a South Boston District Court stolen property charge dating back to April. She assigned $500 bail to Lessard, 19, of 68 Rockaway St., Lynn, who pleaded not guilty to shoplifting in excess of $100 value. Deivi Castillo, 17, of 55 Rockaway St., Lynn, was charged with shoplifting and ordered held by a probation officer.Campbell ordered Casillas to return to court on Dec. 23.
