College Notebook: Vecchione still stands out at Union

Mike Vecchione of Saugus continues to make it happen for the Union College hockey team.Vecchione leads the defending Division 1 champions with six goals and 14 assists. He had four assists in the Shillelagh Tournament held at Notre Dame over the weekend. with two coming in a win over the Irish and two in a loss to Western Michigan. Vecchione was the ECAC Player of the Month in October.UThe Regis College men’s and women’s soccer teams have some local athletes on their respective rosters.Larry Bolduc of Saugus High recently wrapped up a four-year career playing for The Pride. Bolduc played defense but still managed to scored two goals this season. Bolduc, a communications major, was among the contingent recognized on Senior Day. Bolduc appeared in 14 of Regis? 20 games this year.USeveral former Classical High soccer players are also playing for Regis. Sophomore forward Donald Gomez tied for the team lead with 16 points. Gomez finished with seven goals and two assists. Freshman forward Jefferson Lorimar played in 13 games, scoring two goals to show for his efforts.Jessica Perez is a freshman midfielder on the women?s team. Perez, who has two assists, also played four years of softball while she was at Classical.UDiondra Woumn, who helped lead the English High girls basketball team to the Eastern Mass final last year, is a freshman guard on the Franklin Pierce women’s basketball team. Woumn has played in three of the team’s first six games and is averaging three points per game.UCatherine Stinson, Woumn’s teammate on the English High basketball team for the last four years, is a freshman guard on the Southern New Hampshire University women’s basketball team. She has started all seven games and is averaging six points per game, with a high of 11 11 points against Eckerd.UFormer Classical High girls basketball player Monta Connolly is a sophomore guard for the Framingham State University women’s basketball team. Connolly has played in five games and is averaging nine points per game, including a high of 15 against Western New England College.UThe Salem State University men?s hockey team has several local players on its roster, including sophomore forward Alex Minter of Peabody (Malden Catholic, Governor?s Academy) and junior forwards Andrew Bucci (Peabody High) Chris Mastropietro of Revere.UFormer Peabody High volleyball and basketball star Carolyn Scacchi recently completed her freshman season on the Southern New Hampshire University volleyball team. An outside hitter, she recorded 152 kills in 25 games this season.UKate Lipka (Peabody, Bishop Fenwick) is a freshman guard on the University of Southern Maine women?s basketball team. Tatiana Doucette (Lynn, St. Mary?s) is a freshman defenseman on the Huskies? women?s hockey team.
