Two Burpee Road residents will stay with relatives after Fire Chief Kevin Breen said a midday Monday fire left their home uninhabitable.Breen said firefighters arrived at 52 Burpee Road after receiving a call at 11:53 a.m. to find smoke pouring from the single-story home. They cut holes in the roof and extinguished a fire that Breen said was centered in the kitchen.?It appears to be some sort of electrical fire. It’s not suspicious,” he said.Bill MacKenzie said he lives in the house with fiancee and homeowner Cheryl Iudice. They were both at work when Swampscott police called and reported the fire. He said firefighters got the couple’s dogs, Jake and Brady, out of the house.?We will stay at my mother’s in Everett,” MacKenzie said.Breen said the house located almost opposite the Machon School is “uninhabitable for the foreseeable future.” He said Marblehead and Lynn firefighters helped town firefighters extinguish the fire by 12:21 p.m. and Salem firefighters provided additional coverage.Swampscott averages about 11 structure fires per year, the chief said.
