December 17, 2014 by Matthew Roy

The Classical boys? basketball team got off to a nearly perfect start against Revere on Tuesday. Actually, it was perfect defensively as they threw a goose egg at the Patriots in the first quarter to take a 24-0 lead and cruise home to an 83-39 win.
The Rams? offense was led by 14 points from Peter Mafo and 11 from Jalen Johnson. Phil Rogers, Calvin Johnson and Eli McConney chipped in 10 points each as 12 different players scored for Classical
Classical plays Friday at home against Peabody before a Saturday afternoon meeting with Malden in the Salem State Christmas Classic.
English 74, Peabody 57
At Peabody, this one was much closer than the score indicated as the Tanners trailed by only a point (43-42) before the Bulldogs put together a 23-4 run to put the game away.
?Peabody played very well,” English coach Mike Carr said. “But we were able to pick it up late in the third and that carried over into the fourth quarter.”
Erick Rosario led English with 19 points. Anthony Silfa added 17 and Stevie Collins chipped in 12. The Tanners got 16 points off the bench from Junior Astrella.
Saugus 43, Marblehead 42
At Marblehead, Evan DeCristoforo (17 points) hit a clutch three?-pointer with 28 seconds left in the fourth, and it was enough as the Sachem defense was able to hold off the Magicians on their last possession to clinch victory.
Marblehead got 14 points from Spencer Craig and 12 by Will Millett.
Salem 60, Beverly 52
At Beverly, Ricky Arias came through for the Witches’ offense, scoring 17. Salem had three players in double figures. Beverly got 15 points from Kyle Coughlin
Gloucester 62, Swampscott 49At Gloucester, Dajour Dunkley had a game high 30 points but it wasn?t enough to offset the Fishermen?s balance. Alex Militello had 20 for Gloucester with teammate John Philpott adding 12 points and 13 rebounds.
