Even in defeat, the Classical swimming team knows how to put on a show in the water. On Monday evening at Lynn Tech, the host ?Rams fell to Danvers, 100-?85, in a meet highlighted by a pair of photo finishes that supplied both squads with a first?-place winner.
Kevin Chasse eked out an exciting victory in the 50?-yard freestyle, swimming to a 25.32 win before fellow junior and co-?captain Allysha Dunnigan came up just short in the 100-yard ?backstroke (1:12.31) after an electrifying come?back during the third? length.
?Both finishes looked like they could have gone either way,” said Classical coach Denise Silva.
?I actually thought that Kevin had touched at the same time but the officials were right on top of them. Allysha’s surge came from out of nowhere. That was really something to watch.”
Both Chasse and Dunnigan added second-place finishes, the former in the 100-yard ?breaststroke (1:16.87) and the latter in the 200-yard ?freestyle (2:24.20).
?We’ve had to mix up Kevin’s events lately because we?re missing six athletes who are fighting off illnesses,” said Silva. “Allysha has no preferences in where we put her; she’s comfortable in any race.”
Erinn Daly continued her early-season dominance with a pair of wins in the 500?-yard freestyle (5:58.19) and the 200-yard ?individual medley (2:26.10).
?She’s extremely versatile and continues to do a tremendous job with whatever events we put her in,” Silva said. “She still has a long way to go until she reaches her ceiling so I’m really happy to be by her side for another two-and-a-half seasons.”
In the evening’s diving event, the Rams had a one-?two finish with freshman Sarah Sirois (173.45) finishing ahead of senior Micah Dublin (170.25). Junior Mehdi Bakhouch added yet another second?-place finish in the 100?-yard butterfly (1:11.85).Fenwick 90, Arlington Catholic 78
