PEABODY – A 43-year-old tow truck driver was killed Monday afternoon and his passenger seriously injured after the truck driver lost control and rolled on Route 128 South in Peabody prompting a three-car crash.The names of the deceased and the injured passenger are not being released pending notification of family members, according to State Police.State Police in Danvers reported responding at 3:10 p.m. Monday to Route 128 South in Peabody at the Route 95 split on the report of a three-car crash involving a rollover where the driver was thrown from the vehicle.A preliminary investigation by Trooper Michael Perry indicates that a 1987 GMC flatbed tow truck was hauling a car when the driver lost control and the truck rolled. The 43-year-old driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle, police reported. CPR was performed at the scene and the man was taken to Union Hospital in Lynn, where he was pronounced dead. A 65-year-old male passenger in the vehicle was entrapped and, once freed, transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police reported.The 34-year-old driver of a 2011 Ford van was taken to Lahey Burlington for minor injuries, and a 31-year-old driver of a 2012 Mazda 3 was uninjured in the crash, police reported. The incident closed Route 128 South for more than 30 minutes as patients were treated and the scene was cleared.
