LYNN – A babysitter who allegedly fell asleep while running a bath for two toddlers who ended up scalded, has had child endangerment charges continued without a finding of guilty or not guilty pending a three-year probation.Charles Collins-Robinson, 21, had pleaded not guilty in Lynn District Court to two counts of child endangerment in connection with the bathtub scalding of two toddlers when Collins-Robinson was arraigned on the charges in June.Lynn firefighters responded to an apartment at 263 Essex St. June 18 and found two brothers, ages 3 and 2, badly scalded from water in a bathtub.Collins-Robinson was babysitting the two boys, as he did regularly, and later told police he fell asleep while running the water for the tub.Last week Lynn District Court Judge Ellen Flatley ordered the charges continued without a finding of guilty or not guilty pending a three-year pretrial probation. Conditions of probation include that Collins-Robinson have no contact with the toddlers and no unsupervised contact with children under age 10, that he not work in childcare, and that he move out of the building where the toddlers and their family lives.”He was relieved that his record will stay intact, will allow him to be in a better position when he applies for jobs? and if he satisfies condition of probation over the next few years, the matter will be dismissed,” defense attorney Lance Sobelman said. “He’s scarred, too, not just the kids. He was really close to them, they were basically like members of the family. This whole experience has been very hard on him; not just the case, but he has to stay away from them.”The father of the two boys is suing the Affordable Housing Associates of Lynn for negligence. In the suit, Joseph Young cites an Item story quoting the Lynn plumbing inspector, who told the newspaper that the temperature was 19 degrees above the maximum temperature for a shower.Young could not be reached for comment Friday.
