School: Lynnfield boys’ hoop rolls past Fenwick

The Lynnfield boys? basketball team continued its hot play Sunday as Jake McHugh and Brendan Sullivan scored 18 points each and the Pioneers blasted past Fenwick, 66-51.
The Pioneers (7-0) trailed 16-12 after the opening quarter before taking control of the game in the second thanks to a 21-7 run that saw 18 of the points come from McHugh and Sullivan. Lynnfield eventually led 33-23 at the half.
The Pioneers kept the lead at or near double figures the rest of the way. Nick Eliopoulos and Tommy Kearney chipped in eight points each for Lynnfield while Ryan Veguilla led Fenwick with 18 points.
Hopedale 60, St. Mary’s 45
Thirty-six combined points from senior guards Dennis Bailer (25) and Jonny Mercado weren?t enough for the Spartans, who fell to 4-2. St. Mary’s looks to get back on track tonight, at home, against conference-rival, Arlington Catholic (6:30).
Swampscott 59, Amesbury 48
Dajour Dunkley’s double-double, featuring 16 points and 10 assists paved the way to a victory for the Big Blue (4-2) who got big nights from Travis Thurman (14 points, 7 rebounds) and Mike Spinola who finished with eight points and 14 rebounds. Jack Porter scored all eight of his points in the third period for Swampscott, which is at home against Marblehead tonight (7).
Newton North 69, St. John?s 64
St. John’s had three players in double figures, including Kareem Davis who scored a game-high 18 points in the loss. Ben Judson (17 points) and Spencer Danforth (15) had big nights offensively for the Eagles (3-2) who led by two after the second and third quarters.

Lincoln-Sudbury 65, Swampscott-Marblehead 7
Everett 42, Swampscott-Marblehead 18
Swampscott-Marblehead 36, Peabody 33
At Everett, Swampscott-Marblehead (1-11-1) got its first win of the season thanks to solid wrestling from Stephen Hopkins at 120 pounds and Mike Haskell in the 113 pound class.

St. John?s 57 Plymouth South 9
St. John?s 63 Bridgewater-Raynham 15
St. John?s 55 North Attleboro 10
At North Attleboro, the Eagles (17-0) dominated most of the day. Going 4-0 for The Prep was Sam Little at 106 pounds; Zach Alexander, 120; Michael Dik, 126; Hunter Costa, 138; Jack Anderson, 145; David Yepez, 170; Ian Butterbrodt, 220 and Jay Carnevale, 285.
GYMNASTICS
Beverly 131.6, Fenwick 127.9

At Beverly, Brittany Bertaux competed in the all-around for the very first time, finishing second overall in points with 34.1. The junior picked up victories on the vault (8.8) and bars (8.5) in addition to tying for second place on the floor (8.5).
Fenwick’s Taylor Tattan took first in the all-around (34.7), helped along by wins on the beam (9.4) and floor (9.0). Gloucester freshman Aisha Gahm-Diaz had standout performances on the vault (8.0) and bars (7.5).
Danvers 139.25, Salem 97.8
Masco 133, Salem 97.8
At Danvers, senior captain Emily McPherson took first on the beam (9.4) and bars (8.7), helping Danvers (139.25) to a victory over the 0-2 Witches. Junior captain Julia Valenti (9.25) and freshman Rachel Hill (9.2) added wins for the Falcons on the vault and floor respectively.For Salem, junior captain Hayley Jellison (all-around) finished as the team’s top-scorer.
