January 8, 2015 by Matthew Roy

With just over three minutes to go, it looked like the Sachems were going to have another bitter pill to swallow but Mike Sarnicchiaro and Jimmy Alcott came to the rescue with goals 40 seconds apart to give Saugus a 2-1 win over Danvers.
?We really needed a big win like this,” Saugus coach Jeff Natalucci said. “We had a strong effort Saturday (in a loss to Winthrop) and wanted to build on it. We needed to come out and knock off one of these top teams to get some confidence.”
The game was scoreless until midway through the second when Troy Fleming gave Danvers a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal. It stayed that way until late in the game, when Straticos came out of the penalty box and joined Sarnicchiaro for a two-on-one that Sarnicchiaro finished to tie the game.
Moments later, Chris Sanderson got the puck back to Alcott at the point and his shot got past Falcons goalie Alex Taylor for the game winner.

The Jets (2-4-1) got a much-needed confidence boost as they used three second-period goals to blow the game open.
Kyle Morrill had two goals and an assist to lead Lynn?s attack. Mark Brazell and Brett Molea each had a goal and an assist with Jon Kosmas providing the other Jets goal.
George Papageorgiou stopped all 14 shots he faced to get the win in net.
?It?s a step in the right direction. We?ve got a long way to go but it?s nice to see everyone get in and contribute,” Jets coach Joe Conlon said.St. Mary?s 3, Archbishop Williams 1
The suddenly red-hot Spartans (4-4-2) made it four wins in a row thanks to a solid effort at both ends of the rink. Shawn MacBurnie, Jon Powers and Max McKay each had a goal, with Austin Frankel dishing out two assists.
In net, Ryan Borders stopped 19-of-20 shots against a talented Williams team.
Marblehead 3, Peabody 2
Tim Kalinowski had two goals and assisted on Braden Haley?s game-winning goal early in the third as the Magicians (4-3) held off a third period onslaught from the Tanners (1-5-1).
Peabody outshot Marblehead, 16-6, in the third and 34-25 for the game but couldn?t get the equalizer after Ryan Carney cut the deficit to one midway through the final period.
Marblehead led 1-0 after one on a Kalinowski goal. Donnie Shaw tied the game early in the second before Kalinowski scored again, assisted by Haley and Cam McDonald (two assists).
Marc Scribner had 32 saves for Marblehead while Aaron McDonnell had 22 stops for the Tanners.Beverly 3, Winthrop 2
The Panthers (4-4) rebounded to get two big points after their heartbreaking loss to Marblehead on Saturday. Clinton Cabral?s goal at 11:13 of the second period, assisted by Ted Leathersich, held up as the game winner.
Beverly?s Brendan Boyle and Winthrop?s Henry Brooks traded goals in the first before Dom Guardino (goal, assist) gave Beverly a 2-1 lead early in the second. Dan Brogan?s power play goal at 8:13 of the middle frame tied the game at 2-2.
St. John?s 2, Catholic Memorial 1
The Eagles (5-2) trailed 1-0 after one period following Zach Sullivan?s goal but fought back to tie the game early in the second on Tyler Scearbo?s marker. Nick Latham then won it with less than a minute to go.
Gloucester 11, Salem 6
The battle for first place in the Northeastern Conference/South standings turned into a wild one as the Fishermen (3-2-0, 3-0-0 NEC South) scored an astounding 10 times over the final two periods.
Jack Nicastro had a hat trick to lead the offensive onslaught for Gloucester. Liam Lyons and Alex Enes each had two goals and two assists while Eddie Mahoney had a goal and two assists.
