Anthony Silfa has proved every bit the blessing to Lynn English’s boys’ basketball team that the program hoped for.
On Wednesday night, Silfa — the 6-foot-3 junior guard who transferred from St. Mary?s this year — poured in a game-high 37 points to lead the Bulldogs to a win over host Revere, 86-65.
?(Silfa) has been outstanding. All he wants to do is win,” said English coach Mike Carr
Silfa who has played a big role in his team’s 7-1 start (5-0 in the Northeastern Conference/North).
?He’s one heck of a talent and has really embraced stepping into a defensive role for us,” Carr said. “If he continues to become the total package, the sky is the limit for him.”
Basketball is a team game however, and the Bulldogs must continue to work out the kinks, according to Carr who expressed displeasure in his team’s timid start.
?Coming out flat has been an ongoing issue for us. We can’t seem to play a complete game defensively, which is typically something we pride ourselves on. We need our intensity to pick up,” he said.
Revere stuck with English throughout the first half, which ended with the Bulldogs leading by one (32-31) before they exploded for 29 points in the third period.
Erick Rosario added 15 points for the Bulldogs who got nine points from Johnny Hilaire.
For the Patriots, Romeo Thomas (17) and Camilo Gomez combined for 33 points in the loss.
