Track Roundup: Classical, English split while Danvers sweeps Winthrop

The Danvers track teams swept to easy wins over Winthrop on Thursday. The Falcon boys dominated in a 61-25 victory while the girls used their depth to get past the Vikings, 47-38.
The Falcon boys (2-2, 1-2 Northeastern Conference/South) racked up the points by sweeping the high jump and mile while also winning four other individual events along with the 4×400 relay.
Danvers had a double winner in Zach Persson, who took the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and 50-meter hurdles (8.0 seconds). Also taking firsts for Danvers were Jason McCannon in the shot put (37-6 ?); John Thomas, 55-meter dash (6.6); Kevin Hebert, 1,000 meters (2:55.1) and Colin Marie, mile (5:18.1).
Winthrop got its wins from Cal Garufo in the 300 meters (41.3); Chris Beaudry, 600 meters and William Holden, two miles (11:34.8).
The Falcon girls (2-2, 1-2 NEC/South) rode to their win on a sweep of the shot put which gave them the eventual margin of victory. Winning for Danvers was Karen Hovey in the shot put (31-2 ?); Erin St. Pierre, 55-meter hurdles (9.3); Angela Calderon, 55 meters (7.5); Katie Crum, mile (6:07.6) and Becky Henlon, two miles (13:49.9).
Winthrop (1-2) had wins from Amy Sena in the high jump (4-8); Regina Garufo, 300 meters (48.1); Holly Benson, 600 meters (1:51.0) and Heidy Benson, 1,000 meters (3:39.7).
GIRLS? TRACK
Lynn Classical 59, Lynn English 27
The Rams (3-1, 2-1 NEC/North) did something that coach Steve Martin believes his team hasn?t done in his time as head coach: Win every event.
?We?ve been pretty consistent across the board all year,” Martin said. “Our seniors are running really well and the younger kids have come along nicely.”
Classical got its wins from Leyani Anderson in the high jump (4-4); Ivy Martin, shot put (26-5 ?); Devyn Astucio, 50-yard hurdles (7.6); Agnes Bangura, 50-yard dash (7.6); Anna Wargo, 300 meters (46.4); Rachel Jordan, 600 meters (2:04.0); Jenn Ierardi, 1,000 meters (3:55.1); Laurie Rodriguez, mile (6:39.3) and Taylor Ferraro, two miles (15:10.4).
English (0-3) had second-place finishes from Bianca Silenciaux in the shot put (25-5 1/2); Elizabeth Rozon, 50-yard hurdles (9.2); Tayba Abdalkaby, 50-yard dash (6.7); Mia Pasuy, 600 meters (2:07.0); Marne McManus, 1,000 meters (3:58.9); Savannah Hathaway, mile (7:14.1) and Francesca Canas, two miles (15:14.6).
BOYS? TRACK
Lynn English 54, Lynn Classical 32
The Bulldogs (1-2) won five individual events and the 4×440 relay (4:57.7) to get past their archrivals. Winning for English was C.J. Hernandez in the high jump (5-8); Thai Bui, 300-meter race (42.7); Joshua Osawe, 600 meters (1:36.2); James Cabral, 1,000 meters (3:02.2) and Jascarr Cisneros, mile (5:44.9).Classical (1-3) got its wins from Luis Guterriaz in the shot put (36-2 ?); Elias Gervacio, 50-yard hurdles (7.3); Nick Newhall, 50-yard dash (5.8) and Thomas Mackin, two miles (10:58.5).
