January 10, 2015 by Matthew Roy

When the St. Mary?s boys? basketball team gets going on all cylinders, it can be pretty hard to contain. Bishop Fenwick found that out firsthand on Friday night as the Spartans buried five three-pointers in the opening quarter which helped them to a 22-point lead and an eventual 69-60 win over the Crusaders.
?We came out and shot the ball real well early,” St. Mary?s coach Dave Brown said. “It was also good to be able to get a lot of our younger kids some experience.”
The Spartans (6-3) should have had a cakewalk to the finish line after leading 26-4 at the end of one. But Fenwick?s Ryan Veguilla put the Crusaders on his back and helped make things interesting, especially in the final quarter.
Veguilla finished with a game-high 36 points as Fenwick (1-6) cut a 40-16 halftime deficit to as little as seven points in the fourth quarter.
?Ryan went bananas,” Fenwick coach John Preziosa said. “He played really well and the guys didn?t quit even when we were down big. They kept fighting.”
Dennis Bailer led St. Mary?s with 18 points, while Jonny Mercado added 11 and nine different players scored for the Spartans.
Lynn English 91, Swampscott 57
The Bulldogs (8-1) came out of the gates flying, taking a 30-9 lead after a quarter. Swampscott (4-4) cut the lead to 45-34 at the break before English put the game away with a 30-point third quarter.
?I think that we turned a corner (on Friday),” English coach Mike Carr said.
Anthony Silfa led English?s attack with 25 points. Senior guard Erick Rosario chipped in 22 and center Johnny Hilaire added 14 as 11 different players scored for English.
Swampscott was led by 13 from Dujour Dunkley and 11 points each from Joey Ragusa and Nick Scibelli.
Greater Lowell 80, Lynn Tech 52
Michael Anaya had 19 points and Aquemini Gaston added 11 as the Tigers (0-9) outscored the Gryphons, 30-28, in the second half following a tough first half.
Jahvon Van had eight points for Tech while Justin Lewis and Arlen Reynoso finished with six each.

The Magicians? (4-4) inside dominance paid off as Will Millett had a game-high 22 points and Angel Perez added 14. Teddy Bostley made it three players in double figures for Marblehead as he finished with 10 points.
Romeo Thomas had 14 points to lead Revere (1-7). Tommy Chea added 13 points and Camilo Gomez finished with 11.
Salem 75, Saugus 54
