Some new names found their way into the win column for the Lynn Tech swimming team in its 84-77 victory over visiting Blue Hills Regional on Monday.
In individual competition, Juan Bernabe picked up his first win of the season in diving, accumulating 131.14 points. The sophomore also took part in the Tigers 200-yard freestyle relay (2:10.23) win along with sophomores Juan Pablo Cifuentes and Santiago Zuluaga as well as junior Eric Paz.
?The whole group of them joined up with us shortly after our first meet of the season,” said Tech coach Brad Tilley of the quartet. “They’ve jumped right into the mix and have become extremely dedicated. They’re a great bunch and have continued to progress from meet to meet.”
Zuluaga was also a part of the hosts? victory in the 200-yard medley relay along with a trio who have helped pace Tech to two wins in as many outings: juniors Joie Donnelly and Nick Westin as well as senior stalwart Jake Kennedy.
Kennedy was a double winner in the 50-yard freestyle (28.38) and 100-yard freestyle (1:06.7), while Westin added a victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:30.57, ahead of junior Jaleen Alicea.
?(Kennedy and Westin) have consistently provided us with the bulk of our victories while serving as tremendous leaders, in and out of the pool,” said Tilley.
Tilley also lauded the father-daughter assistant coach tandem of John and Katie Hogan, who he said have been invaluable to the team’s early success.
Senior Bryan Perez tacked on a win in the 100-yard butterfly for the Tigers (2-2), who meet Blue Hills again on Wednesday afternoon, in Canton.
Ipswich 115, Lynnfield 71
Sabrina Bumar set a school record in diving with 300.80 points for the Pioneers who fell to 0-3. Lynnfield had a number of second-place finishes, including two apiece from Lindsay Barrett in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.21) and 200-yard individual medley (2:33.06) as well as Shreyas Kudrimoti in the 200-yard (2:22.94) and 500-yard (6:25.66) freestyles.
Zack Glowick added a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a 24.84.
GYMNASTICS
Gloucester 128.75, Peabody 123.08
Gloucester (1-1) picked up its first win since 2012, led by junior Mike Abell, who took first on the vault with a career-best 9.3. Freshman Aisha Gahm-Diaz placed second in the event with an 8.45, in addition to a third-place finish on the floor (8.0).
Senior Angus Mauser won on the bars with a score of 8.6, ahead of Abell and senior captain Jessica Looby (8.2), who also placed second on the beam (8.0), just ahead of sophomore Sophia Gallo (7.9).For the Tanners (1-2), Shelby McKie finished first on the balance beam (8.55), the floor (8.70) and in the all-around (33.04), ahead of Sam Kinnaly (32.04), who placed second on the uneven bars (8.5), the floor (8.4) and the balance beam (8.0).
