Boys’ Basketball: Classical gets a much-needed win over Swampscott

With its season hitting the halfway point on Tuesday night, the Lynn Classical boys? basketball team needed a win in the biggest of ways when it faced Swampscott. And the Rams got just that as five players scored in double figures, led by 15 points from C.J. Lights, in an 87-44 victory over the Big Blue.
?We really did need this win coming in at 3-6,” Classical coach Tom Grassa said. “Everyone played really well.”
Senior Phil Rogers chipped in 14 points for the Rams. Peter Mafo added 12 points while Joel Alvarez and Eli McConney had 10 points each. The Big Blue (4-5) got a game-high 16 points from Joey Ragusa with Dujour Dunkley and Travis Thurman adding 11 points each.
Classical led 20-15 after a quarter but blew the game open by outscoring Swampscott, 20-5, in the second period.
?Turnovers hurt us big time,” Swampscott coach Dave Born said. “And they were a continuing problem.”
Lynn English 91, Winthrop 25
The Bulldogs (9-1, 7-1 Northeastern Conference/North) ran out to a 29-5 lead after one quarter and put it on cruise control from there. Erick Rosario led English with 20 points as 12 different players scored.
Anthony Silfa added 13 points while Johnny Hilaire had 11 and Leo Terrero added 10 for the Bulldogs. Jake Chiudina led Winthrop with eight points.
?We?ve kind of turned the corner a little bit,” English coach Mike Carr said. “The kids are starting to buy in.”
Shawsheen 56, Lynn Tech 25
The Tigers (0-10) trailed by only a point at 11-10 after one quarter but scored only three points over the next 16 minutes to let the game slip away. Michael Anaya had eight points for Tech.
Marblehead 70, Peabody 59
Cian Saunders buried five three-pointers on the way to a game-high 27 points as the Magicians moved to 5-4 with the road win. Teddy Bostley had 15 points and Angel Perez added 11 for a balanced Marblehead attack.
Peabody (5-4) got 17 points from Matt D?Amato. Junior Estrella added 13 and John Lawrence finished with 11 for the Tanners.
Saugus 69, Revere 59
The Sachems (3-5) trailed, 18-9, after a quarter but rallied to cut the lead to four at the break. They put the hammer down in the second half, outscoring the Patriots, 44-30, to grab the win.
Evan DeCristoforo led Saugus with 18 points. Kyle Autillio added 12 while David Rowinsky and Dan Cacciola each finished with 11. Revere got a game-high 25 points — including seven three-pointers — from Romeo Thomas.
Lynnfield 58, Pentucket 56
The game went right down to the wire as Pentucket missed a shot at the buzzer that would have tied the game. Lynnfield (7-1) was led by 14 points from Ethan Forrest and 13 by Brendan Sullivan. Pentucket?s Pat Freiermuth had a game-high 26 points.
Archbishop Williams 81, Bishop Fenwick 58
Myles Connor had a double-double for the 1-8 Crusaders, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Haley added 11 points and Greg Reyes chipped in 10 for Fenwick.
Salem 64, Gloucester 33
The Witches (8-2) prepared for their showdown with Danvers on Friday by turning up the defensive pressure over the final three quarters. Salem turned an 8-8 tie after a quarter into a 43-21 blowout by the end of the third period.
Jhonel Roberts led Salem with 13 points while Ricky Arias and Alex Sanchez each had 11. John Philpott led the Fishermen with 10 points.
Danvers 66, Beverly 42
It was a close game at the break as the Falcons (8-0) had a slim 33-29 lead before holding Beverly to only two points in the third quarter as they broke the game open. Rashad Francois led Danvers with 21 points, including five three-pointers.Vinny Clifford added 13 points for the Falcons while Devan Harris had 12 points and Devin Allen added 10. Peter Merry had 12 blocks and eight rebounds.
