Lynn Classical (4-5) came out on fire Tuesday night, beating Swampscott in convincing fashion, 48-27. The Rams held Swampscott to just 11 points in the second half to seal a convincing victory.
Chenysse Hill led the charge for the Rams with 15 points. Paris Wilkey contributed 10 points in the win as well, and Classical got a big lift from senior captain Chelsea Rogers, who played her first game Tuesday night after returning from an injury.
Rogers provided a big boost for the Rams, scoring five points and pulling down eight rebounds. But her real contribution was in the mental aspect of the game.?She?s really a steady force on our team,” said Classical coach Tom Sawyer. “She came up big tonight.”
Sawyer was very happy with his team?s efforts as a whole.
?We got off to a really good start, but I think we played the best third quarter that we have all year,” he said. “That sealed the game for us.”
That third quarter saw the Rams go on a 14-3 run to extend a six-point lead at halftime to a 17-point lead by the start of the fourth quarter. Swampscott just couldn?t hit shots at the end and Classical coasted to a victory.Archbishop Williams 69, Bishop Fenwick 35
Bishop Fenwick fell behind early and never recovered, eventually falling to a very talented Archbishop Williams team. Although they had a bit of a second quarter outburst, the Crusaders were largely held in check and were outscored, 34-12, in the second half.
?We didn?t come out aggressively and we only played well in spurts,” said Fenwick coach Adam DeBaggis. “That just isn?t enough against a team that?s that good.”Colleen Corcoran led the Crusaders with 16 points, while Lexie Rose contributed six points in the loss.
Danvers 48, Beverly 44
After suffering a heartbreaking overtime loss against Lynn Classical on Friday, the Falcons rebounded to take an upset win from a talented Beverly (6-2) team on Tuesday. Danvers (3-6) trailed by just a point going into halftime. But in the third quarter the Falcons tightened up their work on the boards and were able to hold Beverly to just nine points and take the lead. Although Beverly fought back in the fourth quarter, Danvers stood strong and held off the Panthers for the win.Danvers coach Pat Veilleux was impressed with his team?s efforts.
?We really did a great job of boxing out and limiting their second chance opportunities,” Veilleux said. “Even when they came on strong late we were able to hold them off. It was a great win for our girls.”
Junior captain Devan Walsh was the leading scorer for the Falcons, dropping 27 points. Sophomore Elena Clifford added six points and junior Hannah Llewellyn scored five.
Melissa Lubas led Beverly with 13 points.
Winthrop 48, Lynn English 22Senior captain Kristen Siscamanis led the way for Winthrop with 14 points as the Vikings rolled over English. Winthrop?s other senior captain Niki Tsiotos scored 11 points. The Vikings got ahead early and never looked back against an overmatched English squad.
English coach Rachael Bradley summed up the game.
?We were flat,” she said. “We just didn?t show up tonight. Hats off to Winthrop, though; they came out firing.”Dorothy Ezemba and Tommi Hill were the top scorers for English with five points each. Waleska Muriel and Samantha Holey each had three points, while Nairobis Rodriguez, Taylor Sullivan and Regina Ngaleu all had two points.Peabody 43, Marblehead 39
After jumping out to an early 13-point lead in the first half, the Tanners had to hold on for dear life as Marblehead battled back to make it a nail biter. The Tanners prevailed, thanks to some big free throws down the stretch.
?We jumped out early and looked really good, but they fought back,” said Tanners coach Stan McKeen. “Those free throws we hit late was just huge for us.”
Melissa Gray had a nice night for the Tanners with 12 points, while Jill Wallace added seven more.
For Marblehead, Colby Shea led the way with 14 points and three assists. Lindsey Walker also had a big night
