Things went just how Lynn Jets coach Joe Conlon wanted in the first period on Wednesday at Talbot Rink against Northeastern Conference/South leader Gloucester. But it was downhill after that, as Gloucester rallied for a 4-2 win.
The Jets controlled the play and took a 1-0 lead after the first. But the problem for Lynn was that the Fishermen still had two periods left to rally and they did, scoring three times in the second period before adding another in the third to take a 4-2 win.
?We didn?t play 45 minutes and got what we deserved,” Conlon said. “We have to find a way to put a complete game together.”
Lynn (2-6-1, 1-3-1) took a 1-0 lead on Corey Wojewodzic?s goal midway through the first, assisted by Tyler Craig and Jon Kosmas. The Fishermen (4-3-1, 4-0) began the comeback early in the second as Jack Nicastro tied the game. Two minutes later he set up John Mondello to make it 2-1 Gloucester.
Alex Enes made it 3-1 after two when he scored at 9:25. Ethan Brennan put the game away with an unassisted tally early in the third. Mark Brazell scored 15 seconds later for Lynn but the Jets couldn?t get any closer.
St. Mary?s 4, Lowell Catholic 3
It was far from a thing of beauty for the 5-4-1 Spartans but it got the job done as St. Mary?s ran its win streak to five games.
Shawn MacBurnie had two goals and an assist while Jon Powers had a goal and two assists for the Spartans. Eric Pedro added a goal while Mike Zampanti and Max McKay each had an assist.
?It says a lot about how this team has come along that we didn?t play our best and still were able to get the win,” St. Mary?s coach Mark Lee said.
Swampscott 4, Everett 2
The Big Blue (3-6) was at full strength for the firsttime in almost a month after being slowed by injuries and illness and it showed as they scored two goals in each of the final two periods to put away the Crimson Tide.
Ryan Donnelly had two goals to lead Swampscott?s attack. Thomas O?Keefe and Louis Olivieri also had goals while Dan Johnson made 17 stops in net.
?This is the team that we were hoping for when the year started,” Swampscott coach Gino Faia said.
Peabody 3, Beverly 2
The Tanners (3-5-1, 2-2-1 NEC/North) made it back-to-back wins in dramatic fashion, as Matt Pino?s power-play goal with less than a minute to go was the difference. It was a scoreless game until the final minute of the second when Owen Brewster scored for Peabody, assisted by Bobby Caproni.
The Panthers (4-6, 2-3) tied the game early in the third on Ted Leathersich?s 11thgoal of the season before Peabody retook the lead on Cam Smullen?s power-play tally. Beverly rallied to tie it again at 11:33 on Clinton Cabral?s goal, setting up Pino in the final seconds.
Winthrop 2, Danvers 1
The Vikings (7-2-1, 4-1-1 NEC/North) trailed 1-0 after a period but got a pair of second-period goals from Pat Todisco to take the lead. The Winthrop defense did the rest, limiting the Falcons (6-4-0, 3-3-0) to just 16 shots in the game.
Danvers? goal came off the stick of Rob Tibbetts, assisted by Troy Fleming, late in the opening period.
Salem 4, Revere 0
The Witches (7-2-1, 3-1 NEC/South) put 56 shots on net as they got goals from Andre McRae, Mike Gillis, Sam Petri and Derek Zweircan. Gillis also had an assist in the game.
Salem netminder Nick Holt stopped all 26 shots he faced to get the shutout.
North Reading 6, Lynnfield 3The Pioneers (2-5-2) got into a 3-0 hole early before fighting back to make it a game in the third. But North Reading put the game away. Dan Sullivan, Derek Crampe and Rob LoConte each had a goal for Lynnfield.
